Job 20:4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
Job 20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

One very vocal radio Bible teacher insists upon the millennia-old doctrine of Eternal Torment. But in order to cling to this old Catholic church-doctrine, Bible teachers must ignore or spin away the many verses and passages which explain Hell as the grave.

Truly, the entire world has been thoroughly groomed to understand Hell according to the ancient Babylonian version of Hell, being an actual place in which conscious humans will be tortured throughout all eternity.

But for those who wish to re-examine this misunderstood doctrine, gaining a balanced understanding, the Book of Job must be one of the places in which the Babylonian Eternal Torment doctrine is demolished.

Now this website has highlighted Job, Chapter 3, which says…

But Job is not finished with this subject. Because Chapter 20 has more to say regarding Hell being the grave…

Now, the Bible does refer to Hell as a place of torment. But that torment is not in some underground torture chamber, nor is it eternal. Listen…Pro_15:24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

This above verse is speaking of Hell in terms of being this world.

Well, there are various devotionals which discuss this truth, and the Reader is encouraged to go through the various Eternal Torment devotionals to gain a proper understanding.

Nevertheless Job, Chapter 20 repeatedly speaks of the fate of the wicked in terms of nothingness.
One so-called Christian radio talk show spend a lot of time discussing politics and government. And they create a straw- man argument about whether or not to obey an evil government. In other words, it is either obery or don’t obey. There is no middle ground. But the truth is, a Christian will obery in all things lawful, and disobey any requirement that would cause him or her to transgress the Bible.
There are not many, even among educators and statesmen, who comprehend the causes that underlie the present state of society. Those who hold the reins of government are not able to solve the problem of moral corruption, poverty, pauperism, and increasing crime. They are struggling in vain to place business operations on a more secure basis. If men would give more heed to the teaching of God’s word, they would find a solution of the problems that perplex them.
Of course, most people are not aware that Ellen White made some very amazing predictions about the end-times.

For one thing, She accurately predicted that the United States would eventually becomes the enemy of free speech, which only now is beginning to occur. She even said that it was unbelievable that the very nation that was founded upon the principle of liberty and freedom of expression would eventually become the enemy of those principles!
.
She also predicted that “lying signs and wonders” would eventually be seen on a grand scale in the apostate church-world, which only began 6 decades after her death.
.
And amazingly, her writings warned Christians about the soon-coming 1906 earthquake. just a few years and months prior to that horrific disaster.

But perhaps, her most amazing prediction concerned New York City…
On one occasion, when in New York City, I was in the night season called upon to behold buildings rising story after story toward heaven. These buildings were warranted to be fireproof, and they were erected to glorify their owners and builders. Higher and still higher these buildings rose, and in them the most costly material was used. 9T 12.1

Now listen to her description of the fiery inferno…The scene that next passed before me was an alarm of fire. Men looked at the lofty and supposedly fire-proof buildings and said: “They are perfectly safe.” But these buildings were consumed as if made of pitch. The fire engines could do nothing to stay the destruction. The firemen were unable to operate the engines.9T 13.1

All of these statements were fulfilled on 911, when the Twin Towers crumbled in the midst of a fiery inferno. Although the many brave firemen rushed to the scene, they were crushed in those buildings without any hope of saving lives or stopping the intense inferno. And her description of that awful event was so true…”But these buildings were consumed as if made of pitch”!
Now, one remarkable aspect to this, her prediction, is that her statement about this dream concerning 911, was later put by publishers in a series of compilations, just happening to be put in Book 9, page 11.

Just a coincidence?

And even more remarkable is that she wrote about this premonition in late 1901, exactly 100 years prior to 911: a 100th predictive “pre-anniversary” to that horrific and apocalyptic tragedy!

We are living in the time of the end. The fast-fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand. The days in which we live are solemn and important. The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude.9T 11.1
The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones.9T 11.2
The condition of things in the world shows that troublous times are right upon us. The daily papers are full of indications of a terrible conflict in the near future. Bold robberies are of frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on every hand. Men possessed of demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little children. Men have become infatuated with vice, and every species of evil prevails.9T 11.3
The enemy has succeeded in perverting justice and in filling men’s hearts with the desire for selfish gain.
[Even the church-world has joined in the mad rush for money and self-glory!]

“Justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.” Isaiah 59:14.
[Just look at all the crazy laws now being enacted, and all the unjust court decisions. Behold how the leaders of the land are calling for lawless disregard of the laws of this nation, merely for profit and power! This above verse from Isaiah is now finding its grand fulfillment!]
Now listen again to Ellen White’s recounting of God’s warning from Heaven…”I am instructed that when the Lord’s time comes, should no change have taken place in the hearts of proud, ambitious human beings, men will find that the hand that had been strong to save will be strong to destroy. No earthly power can stay the hand of God. No material can be used in the erection of buildings that will preserve them from destruction when God’s appointed time comes to send retribution on men for their disregard of His law and for their selfish ambition.9T 13.2″
The Scriptures describe the condition of the world just before Christ’s second coming….[This entire article by Ellen White should be carefully read and fearfully heeded. Even her most ardent critics cannot deny that what is written in this chapter is now finding its dramatic fulfillment!]

Yes, the only hope and solution to the current pandemic crisis which now is occurring is to turn back to Jesus with all our hearts! Man is utterly incapable of solving our great problems, without the help of Heaven!
1Pe_2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

What we must understand is that the entire bible is about the Gospel of Jesus, even as it is written…Luk 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He (Jesus) expounded unto them (His disciples) in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

And so, this verse and other similar verse reveal to us that the Bible concerns some aspect of the Gospel of Jesus.

There are many who “stumble at the Word”, not perceiving that all those strange Old Testament stories were allegories concerning Christ, and His Gospel.
.
And so, when we encounter some strange account, such as the true historical account of the last night of Sodom, in which Lot offered his daughters to the Sodomites, who wanted to abuse the two heaven-sent visitors, Lot’s divine guests, we must attempt to find the underlying meaning of that story. In other words, the story of Lot and his exodus from that wicked city just prior to its destruction is a picture of some aspect of the Gospel.

But there are those who stumble at the word, who become offended, saying, “How could this supposed man of God throw his daughters to those horrible Sodomites!?”
.
But the fact is, the Bible is a double-edged sword! And God has purposely written His Word to save or to destroy…Heb_4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Lam 3:48 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of My people.

This verse from Lamentations refers to Old Testament House of Israel as “the daughter of My people”. And the Lord, through Jeremiah reveals His sorrow over His apostate congregation, who valued the things of this life more than the things of Heaven…”Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;” Jeremiah 7:9

But today’s church-world is by no means impervious to this same condemnation which the Old Testament people of God were guilty of!

No, just listen to Paul’s forecast of the end-time church-world…”For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2nd Timothy 4:3, 4
.
This above passage speaks of a church-world steeped in worldly pursuits, earthly riches, and filled many unbiblical additions to the purity of the Gospel.

Well, this little article does not have time to enumerate all these pollutions which have entered God’s house. But there is no shortage of articles which do define exactly why God is unhappy with His professed people.

Bu the focus of today’s devotional is to stress the sorrow which God has over this apostate condition.

Listen to how we are to relate to the Old Testament…”1Co_10:11 Now all these things happened unto them (the Old Testament people of God) for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”

Yes, many or perhaps most Bible teachers today have the inability to relate all those Old Testament stories and prophecies to today’s church-world.
.
The Apostle, Paul, upbraided the churches of Galatia for not being able to discern the spiritual meaning behind the various stories in the Old Testament. And then he went on to reveal to them that there were actually two spiritual Jerusalems…al 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
.
And so, because New Testament believers, both Jew and Gentile are children of their mother, the Jerusalem which is above. But the apostate portion of God’s professed people are of the “Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.” Galatians 4:25
.
And so, when reading such prophecies as Lamentations, the New Testament Bible student needs to understand that God is not only weeping for His Old Testament assembly, but also for His New Testament assembly, equally as much. Even the true worshipers of God have been so corrupted by all the antichrist deceivers within the walls of Sion, that we too have fallen from God’s approval. And He weeps for us too!

But God will still seek out His sheep… “…and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.” Ezekiel 34:12
.
The time which is just before us will be a difficult experience, to put it mildly.
.
But God must remove His sheep from the fallen and apostate conditions which have greatly corrupted His people, rendering them greatly ineffective in their service to Him.
.
And our apostasy has caused the following prophecy to be fulfilled in those of us who are living today…”We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.” Isaiah 26:18
.
Yes, God weeps over His people today. We have not brought forth Christ, neither have will caused the inhabitants of the world to fall to their knees and confess, “that God is in you of a truth.” 1st Corinthians 14:25
.
But the hour has come when it may be said… “Come, My people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.” Isaiah 26:20
.
Yes, the hour is come that we must hide ourselves from the approaching storm!
.
And even though God has been weeping for His apostate people, He is certainly not going to give up on His faithful one, in spite of our sleepy-eyed lukewarm service of the past!

No, “the LORD cometh out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.” Isaiah 26:21
.
And though the days ahead may be difficult, we can rejoice along with the Psalmist…”He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:6
.
Yes, we may weep many tears in the coming days. And even though we will be… “As sorrowful, yet (we will be) alway rejoicing”, knowing that our Lord will, “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” 2nd Corinthians 6:10 & Romans 12:15 (parenthetical comment by this website editor)

Yes, every tear that we shed through the coming purifying trials will be met with manifold more tears by our Lord, who will be with us all the way up that Narrow Pathway…

In yesterday’s devotional, the concept was given of how God purifies His people, His “royal priesthood” by fire.

And so, we continue today to further reveal how this fiery purifying process helps us to “Hold fast to what thou hast”, as Revelation 2:26, & 3:3 commands us to do.

In the Book of Job (pronounced with a long “o”), we read that he was “the greatest of all men of the east” Job 1:3
.
And outwardly, Job was “perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.” Job 1:1
But then, as this wonderful story unfolds, his three “miserable comforters” Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar each engaged in a very long dialogue with Job, pointing their fingers and accusing him of all sorts of sins as the cause for God’s curse to come upon him.

And then after this long diatribe concluded, Elihu, the young man who patiently waited until the three “friends” had finished accusing Job, began to speak.
.
The next few chapters contain Elihu’s correct assessment of Job: inward sin which God was attempting to reveal to Job.
And so, God allowed the Devil to send those fiery trials upon Job, to cleanse out the hidden sins of pride, anger, self-righteousness, and self-pity from Job’s heart.

Just listen to Job’s very own words…“But He (God) knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10
.
Here is revealed that it was God’s intention to allow Job’s fiery trials to ultimately root out these inner sins, which nobody knew about except God.
But at the end of Job’s trials, Job had been successfully cleansed, causing Job to humbly confess before God…“I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” Job 42:5, 6
.
Yes, Job now fully understood that his fiery trials were brought upon him by God Himself, for the purpose of exposing his sins to himself. And Job finally realized how great and wonderful that God is, and what an unrighteous sinner that he (Job) actually was.
.
But Job finally emerged out of his trials humbled and cleansed. And God blessed Job with long life and twice as much as he had prior to his trials!
Many of us (including this website’s editor) have been careless and sloppy, and have allowed Satan to steal away our heaven-sent gifts, letting him snatch them from us, as a thief might do!
.
And because of this, God has allowed the Devil to fill us with our own sinful ways! “A backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways” applies to us! God has filled us with our backsliding ways! And as a result, we have fallen into that proverbial “miry pit”, spoken of in such places as Job 30:19… “He (God) hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.”
.
But God has allowed this to happen to us, that in the end, our fiery trials will burn away the dross from our hearts, so that, like Job, we too will “come forth as gold”. Job 23:10
.

“THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH”

When we read that “a backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways”, we must remember what happened to Job. He had to go through a specified amount of time of suffering before God gave him victory.
.
And so it is with God’s disobedient people. We too must serve out our time of punishment. That’s possibly why we sometimes must suffer by repeating the same nagging sin over and over until the day we finally get victory over that sin. God wants us to become thoroughly sick of that sin. And just as God sent the tribe of Judah through 70 years of captivity for their sins, so also, we must serve out our time in the miry pit, unable to get out until we have fully been cured of that lust.
The Good News is, that by hiding God’s great and precious promises in our hearts, we might go through these trials, relying on those promises to guide us and to give us peace in the midst of the storm ahead.

And at the end, we too may say along with Job…“I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” Job 42:5, 6

Yes, finally God’s true worshipers will have been completely cleansed and thoroughly purified from all “wood, hay and stubble”, that we may “come forth as gold! (1st Corinthians 3:12 & Job 23:10)

What gives this constellation impetus and significance is that it appears as five evenly positioned stars, in a slight oval pattern, as if they were sitting in a meeting, listening, or perhaps watching someone.

Second, they appear to be gathered in front of The Crown of Revelation 12 Constellation. (just below Corona Borealis in this Wikipedia star-chart, in which the editor of this site sketched in these two constellations)
The position of these stars is significant in a number of ways. The first, being that these Five Wise Virgins are gathered around the 12-star Crown of Revelation 12. And the obvious message here is, that these wise virgins represent the faithful portion of God’s Church. And as wise virgins, they understand the importance of winning the glorious crown of victory, which Jesus promised.

Listen…“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” 1st Corinthians 9:24, 25.

And so, God is showing us the difference between the wise and the foolish in His Church. While the wise are gathered around this crown of victory, the foolish are nowhere to be found.

Now, many Bible students reading this might get the idea that this is speaking of the secular world. Or maybe that it also includes the false brethren in the Church.

But this above verse, while it may indeed include those other two groups of people, deals primarily with those who are the chosen people of God!
Listen to this next passage to the Church at Laodicea…“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My mouth…I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich…” (Revelation 3:15-18 click here to read the entire passage)

This is not speaking of merely those who are lost souls in the Church. No, but rather, Christ is speaking to the angel of this Lukewarm Church. He is counseling true worshipers to buy from Him, “gold, tried in the fire”!
Well, just listen to this next passage from Malachi 3:2, 3…“But who may abide the day of His coming? and who shall stand when He appeareth? for He is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”

Here God reveals Himself as a refiner of silver and gold. And all this in reference to the “sons of Levi”.
Well, let’s allow Peter to answer this question regarding the “sons of Levi”…

Listen…“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light:” 1st Peter 2:9

Oh, so now it becomes apparent that New Testament Believers are God’s royal priesthood in these last days (and all through New Testament times).

Judy Garland starred in one of Hollywood’s greatest movies (“greatest” by this world’s standards).

And what movie was that?

The Wizard of Oz, of course!

Well, those familiar with John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress understand that the Wizard of Oz was merely the secular world’s version of Bunyan’s masterpiece tale.
Nevertheless, the movie became a household name in many countries, no doubt. And Judy Garland likewise became an overnight sensation in her role as young Dorothy of Kansas.

And the song, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” became a mega-hit, still today, being recorded by such artists as Israel (IZ) Kamakawiwoʻole and others.
.
This song sang of wishing upon a star, and of a place where one’s dreams come true. And it sang of a place where bluebirds fly through skies of blue, and troubles melt away like lemon drops.
.
Yes, this song was full of hope and promise! One of the most beautiful of all popular songs!
And the lovely, fresh-faced young lady, Judy Garland, captured the hearts of millions of movie-goers, as she looked dreamily up into the sky, and sang that beautiful song in that magical movie.

Well, the gist of that movie was that after her adventure in the land of Oz, she finally realized that her home which she left, was, well, to put it in her own words…“There’s no place like home!”
Because in real life, that beautiful young girl, who played Dorothy of Kansas, quickly grew up in this dark and evil world, only to become hopelessly hooked on drugs. And her life began a downward spiral until finally, she tragically died at the young age of 46. Her fresh-faced beauty fell away like that proverbial flower of the field.

Obviously, Judy never found that magical place somewhere over the rainbow, where dreams come true. Just the opposite! She literally went through a living Hell-on-Earth with her drug addiction! Maybe, instead of “There’s no place like home” she should have rather sang, “There’s no place like this Hell-on-Earth I’m going through!”
And truth-be-told, the heart-breaking story of Judy Garland is an all too familiar tale in this sad and tragic world.

Yes, a great percentage of people likewise become slaves to drugs and alcohol. And many of them also die an early death.
.
Others suffer from various other maladies.
.
A great percentage of the world’s populace go through horrible circumstances of one type or another: divorce, disease, mental problems, crime, rape, war, loss of loved-ones, old age, kidnapping, loneliness, financial problems, loss of job, and a host of similar personal tragedies.

And even those who seem to live a charmed life, eventually suffer and die…a hopeless death!
But there is Good News, even in this hopeless and tragic world!

The fact is, there is a place “somewhere over the rainbow”, where dreams actually do come true!

Listen to how the Bible describes this place…“And I saw a new heaven and a new Earth: for the first heaven and the first Earth were passed away…And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:1, 4

Yes, this above verse speaks of a land which the Bible calls, “The Promised Land”. And all those who decidedly followed Jesus out of this sad and hopeless world, will all be there in that wonderful and beautiful land!

And all are invited to join this mass end-time exodus out of this dark and tragically hopeless world to that land where we will be forever happy and forever young!
This is perhaps one of the most amazing constellations that God has created! It truly looks like a flower, and appears to be blowing in the direction of westward. But as autumn draws near, this constellation appears to bow itself down, just like the flowers of Earth bow down, at the summer’s end.

And these are not merely obscure stars! No! These are among the biggest and brightest stars in the night heavens!

The Two Turtle-Doves Constellation is also known as Sagittarius .

The Flower of the Field is commonly known as Scorpio.

But there is another obvious aspect to this constellation group. Notice that the birds are flying in the same direction as the flower is bending; it is as if the east wind is blowing these heavenly messengers…

To the right is a star-chart from Wikipedia. The editor of this site has sketched in the Flower of the Field Constellation on this constellation commonly referred to as the Scorpio Constellation (plus a few other close-by bright stars).

Do you see the long blade of grass growing from the base of the Flower of the Field? This grass blade is made of the two highest stars of the Lupus Constellation, and the two lowest stars of the Libra Constellation.

As this Wikipedia star-chart shows, the flower appears to be pointing to Arcturus and the Revelation 12 Woman(shown in sketch below).Arcturus represents Jesus, as He leads His sons (and daughters) on a spiritual journey up a heavenward pathway, as is written…“Canst you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or can you guide Arcturus with his sons?” Job 38:32.
