Today’s Devotional -April 27th

HOW DO I BECOME HOLY?

Isn’t it true today, that most of us are feeling quite UN-holy right now.

.

And there are some who claim holiness, but by their lawless lifestyle, actually make a mockery of the word “holy”!

.

And isn’t it also true, that today’s Christianity is filled with vain trifling and giddiness, with joking and sporting among God’s people?

.

And didn’t Habakkuk hit the nail squarely, concerning this generation, when he said… “Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.”? Habakkuk 1:4.

NOT FEELING HOLY

.

Christians today are overwhelmed by ungodly foolish talk and amusements, and all the common triteness and vanity, both in and out of Church.

.

We are not a holy people to a great degree.

.

But many of God’s people would like to be.

.

Listen to Peter’s words… “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness” 2nd Peter 3:11.

.

And yet, many of us worldly ones know that we fall way short of the mark; but we’re puzzled as to what to do about it.

.

But still the question remains to be answered… “How can I be holy?”

PRACTICAL EVERYDAY HOLY LIVING

(IMMERSING ONE’S SELF IN HOLY THINGS)

A good place to start, is for a Christian to begin immersing his or her own self in holy things.

.

**A Christian cannot expect to become miraculously holy, while still eating out of the proverbial “Pig’s Trough”.**

.

**In other words, just as “Bad company corrupts good character” 1st Corinthians 15:33, so also good company encourages good character!**

.

Listen… “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Proverbs 13:20

.

So here the Lord makes it very simple. We must walk with wise men.

.

And let’s face it! There are no wiser men than Matthew, Paul, Isaiah and all the other writers of the Bible!

.

POSITIVE MEASURES

.

The Christian should begin to surround his or her own self with holy influences.

.

For instance, instead of watching less-than-holy people on TV, the dedicated and determined Christian should replace that with, say, a audio-player and earphone, and an audio version of the Bible.

.

Instead of listening to earthy-sensual, so-called, “Christian music”, try listening to sacred music instead (You never know: those sacred hymns just might elevate our thoughts to a higher degree!)

.

WALK AND PRAY!

.

**Instead of worldly hobbies, maybe try taking up The Signs Of Heaven as a hobby, for example, by finding these heavenly signs in the night sky.**

.

Or take up hiking or daily walks in order to get closer to God through prayer.

.

FOOD & CONVERSATION

.

Instead of eating junk food, try eating similar to how Christ ate.

.

Instead of worldly communications, seek out those who are reverent in their daily conversation.

.

SEE THE CHANGE!

.

Before long, you may find that your own behavior begins to become much more reverent…

.

Listen once again… “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Proverbs 13:20.

Could God have made it any plainer than this above statement?

.

DAY & NIGHT

.

Psalm 1 gives the formula for the successful Christian life.

.

And one of the aspects found in that Psalm, is to meditate upon God’s Law (the Bible) day and night (“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.”).

.

This is not a suggestion. This is a command! From God!

.

And the Christian should order his or her life in such a way, so as to allow this command to become a reality.

“They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the river of Thy pleasures.”

Psalm 36:8

And the really Good News is, that God’s abiding Spirit will give the Christian a joy and peace and contentment in living a life of holiness.

.

This is the essence of the “Born Again” new life in Christ!

.

A brand-new person with brand-new joys and desires!

***THE ARK* *IN THE HEAVENS***

So what importance to us is all this information? Well, if a person goes out at night, beginning in April (earlier in southern-most latitudes, and later in northern-most), in the pre-dawn hour, they just might locate the constellation commonly referred to as the Sagittarius Constellation . It is located in the southern sky. (Each night it appears a little earlier, slowly inching westward, through the summer, until it finally disappears below the western horizon in November.)

.

At first, it simply appears as two twin birds flying westward. But if you look once again, it just might appear as a long box-like figure, with one star on the right, as you face it, and two stars on the left. The box, of course would be the Ark, and the stars on either side would represent angels, which are sometimes referred to as stars in the Bible (for instance, “the seven stars are the angels…” Revelation 1:20). To the right is a star-chart from Wikipedia, in which the editor of this site has sketched in this Sagittarius Constellation, to show how God created it to appear.
