Noble Bereans,

Part 36:

“Harold Camping vs. Ellen White”

So, in this little series, the subject of those noble Bereans has been introduced. And today, it is still worthy of a little more exploration into another area of concern.

.

Let’s review the key Bible passage… “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming there, went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:10, 11

AN OPEN-MINDED SPIRIT IN BEREA

.

Okay, so those in Berea were more noble, because they:

.

1. “Received the Word with all readiness of mind.”

.

2. “And searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

.

And so, the Bereans were ready to receive new teachings, which no doubt, conflicted with the supposed, “orthodox” teachings of that day.

.

Thus there was an open-mindedness which permeated their hearts, and a willingness to search the Scriptures daily, in hopes that these seemingly new teachings were indeed true!

HAROLD CAMPING: ‘ELLEN WHITE A FALSE PROPHET’

.

So just how can it be that Harold Camping did not believe that Ellen White was a true Christian, but instead referred to her as “a false prophet”?

.

After all, are not both of these two vital messages which White and Camping each proclaimed, prophesied of in Revelation 14!?

.

Well, Harold Camping’s two main objections to Ellen White was that she believed in the literal observance of the 7th Day Sabbath, and secondly, that God no longer sends direct messages through prophets, but communicates through the Bible only.

CAMPING A LIFELONG ADVOCATE FOR SUNDAY OBSERVANCE

.

Yes, since childhood, Harold Camping personally observed the Sunday Sabbath, and publicly encouraged its observance throughout his 50 year radio ministry.

.

2nd Thessalonians 2:9

But Harold Camping also strongly believed that God is no longer giving direct revelations nor speaking directly to people, especially considering how many church-attendees now claim to be receiving direct revelations from God.

.

Yes, the number of those who are supposedly receiving visions, voices, dreams, tongues, etc., is now at almost pandemic levels today!

.

And all this causes a great amount of confusion in the church-world, to say the least, especially considering the unbiblical and often even outrageous behavior of many who supposedly receive these signs and wonders!

NOT SO MUCH BACK IN THE 1800’S

.

But one explanation for why God so miraculously communicated with Ellen White could very well be, that back in her day, there were virtually no signs or wonders occurring.

.

Oh yes, there were a handful back in the 1800’s, who claimed to have received signs and wonders.

.

But today, you can go into most any church, and before long meet persons who claim that God is miraculously working, via voices, visions, dreams, tongues, healings and other signs and wonders.

.

It’s as common as grass, today!

MUCH LESS CONFUSION BACK THEN

.

No, this great phenomenon of “signs and wonders” was not happening back in Ellen White’s day, except in rare instances.

.

And so, while Mrs. White’s ministry was not smothered beneath millions of other reported signs and wonders, this is no longer the case. Rather, it now appears as if the entire Christian community today is literally teeming with this phenomenon! Almost every church-member claims to have received some sign and wonder, it would seem!

.

Listen to 1st Corinthians 14:27, 31, 33… “If any man speak in an [unknown] tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret…For ye may all prophesy one by one…For God is not the author of confusion…”

.

Here is a general principle laid down, that God wants no part of those churches in which parishioners are all speaking in tongues at the same time, but rather, “one by one…For God is not the author of confusion…”

TODAY’S CHURCH-WORLD: A BABYLON OF CONFUSION

.

Now, just what does all this have to do with Ellen White?

.

Well, if Ellen White’s ministry had occurred in today’s Christian world, her messages would no doubt be confused by all the other millions of instances of voices, visions, tongues, dreams, etc., also currently taking place in churches around the world.

.

Nevertheless, while Harold Camping’s teachings against the countless revelations now occurring is a valid message and warning for today, it is very possible for God to have made an exception with Ellen White back in the day when virtually nobody was involved with signs and wonders.

.

That is one great reason why Ellen White’s ministry had such a great impact back then. Today, her ministry would most likely not even “raise an eyebrow”, being swept away by this current tide of “signs and wonders” within the church-world!

MARTIN LUTHER: BOOK OF JAMES, ‘A PERFECT STRAW-GOSPEL’?

.

But even though Harold Camping’s negative views about Ellen White are somewhat troubling, this is not the only instance of such a disagreement. For example, it is commonly reported that the great theologian and church reformer, Martin Luther, had actually considered the New Testament Book of James to be, “made of straw”. He just didn’t see that Book as being the inspired Word of God!

.

Now obviously, nobody fully understands everything in Scripture: not Martin Luther, nor Harold Camping, nor Ellen White, nor any of the rest of us!

And so, while Harold Camping was disputably one of the world’s greatest theologians, he constantly made the disclaimer, “Don’t trust in me! I too have feet of clay! Trust only in God’s infallible Word, the Bible!”

“THE LORD ALONE SHALL BE EXALTED IN THAT DAY”

Isaiah 2:11

.

Now, of course, the Lord has not left us in confusion concerning the disagreement between these first two messages from Revelation, Chapter 14.

.

Yes, these cloudy issues and seeming contradictions are right now being rectified via the third message of Revelation, Chapter 14.

.

And Camping’s hard-line stance against E.G. White can be reconciled in the following way…

.

After all, God is not desiring for any human to be exalted and deified as some sort of infallible authority. And let’s be ever aware that, it’s human nature to do just that! Therefore, God allowed the messengers of these three Revelation 14 messages to all have “feet of clay” in one way or another.

.

And in that way, God’s people will not begin to trust in human instrumentalities, but instead, we must trust solely and entirely in God’s wonderful and infallible Word, the Bible!

.

STUDY, BEREAN, STUDY!

Now, one thing has to be remembered.

.

The proper way to test the authenticity of Ellen White’s Message and Harold Camping’s message is to study each message separately, that the truth-seeking Berean might prove to his or her own self, the veracity of each message. And this website is confident that any and every true worshiper of God will become satisfied that these two messengers were faithful servants of Christ.

.

This same method of testing applies to the message of the 3rd angel. Spend copious amounts of time studying this message on its own merits, apart from the other two messages.

When God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, He gave Egypt a peculiar name, “The Iron Furnace”.

.

Now why in the world would God call Egypt, “The Iron Furnace”?

FIERY FURNACE OF BABYLON

.

Well the first thing that comes to mind is that fiery furnace which God’s three Hebrews were cast into, as recorded in the Book of Daniel… “That at what time ye hear the sound of…all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” Daniel 3:5, 6

.

Here is seen that great golden image of King Nebuchadnezzar, and the punishment for refusing to worship that image: the fiery furnace.

IMAGE OF THE BEAST OF REVELATION 13

And this reminds us of Revelation 13 in which the whole world will soon be subject to the punishment of death for refusing to worship The Image of the Beast…“And he (the 2nd Beast) had power to give life unto the image of the (1st) beast, that the image of the (1st) beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the (1st) beast should be killed.” Revelation 13:15

So now is seen that all these things have an end-time relevance!

**Yes, the “Iron Furnace” of Egypt, and the “Fiery Furnace” of Daniel, and the worshipping of the “Image of the Beast” in Revelation all have a great significance in these last days.**

IMAGES COULDN’T SPEAK!

.

Notice that this above passage from Revelation 13 says concerning the Image of the Beast…“And he (the 2nd Beast) had power to give life unto the image of the (1st) beast, that the image of the (1st) beast should both SPEAK…”

.

Now this 2nd Beast has power to give life to this image and the ability to speak.

.

It is only in our day that an image has the power to have life and the ability to speak!

.

Yes, the images of old were carved from stone and iron and wood and other metals. But they could not walk, speak, or do good or evil…“but (man-made idols) speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go.” Jeremiah 10:5

But now in these last days will exist an idol or image that CAN speak and CAN do evil, to the point of causing God’s people to be killed if they refuse to worship that image!

Well, isn’t it amazing that such an image already exists?

Yes, television can portray living images and speak, and even cause people to be killed!

Yes, television (and Internet) can, and does kill!

For instance, as of late, the television/Internet have been stirring up hatred between the various factions of our society.

Just think about the various political, religious, ethnic and social groups in the world which have been stirred up to hate one-another even to the point that countless murders have been committed!

.

It seems that Satan is now stirring up hatred among all these groups (political, religious, ethnic and social).

YELLOW JOURNALISM TODAY!

And are television and Internet just innocent bystanders, merely reporting the facts in its various news commentaries?

No, these devices have been very pro-active in pushing their political, religious, ethnic and social agendas!

They are very biased in the way that news is being reported!

.

Television/Internet are the modern-day quintessential, “Yellow Journalism”, slanting their news-stories to bring about the greatest degree of effectiveness, often pitting one group against another on today’s world-stage!

.

**But this is not so much the work of people, but is the concerted effort of, “the god of this world”, Satan!**

INTO THE IMAGE OF THE GOD OF THIS WORLD

Yes, the mass-media is an iron furnace, having the ability to mold and solidify its viewers into the image of Satan.

A day-by-day viewing of these devices will have their imperceptible and yet deleterious effects upon their viewership.

.

And the most susceptible are the young!

.

**And yet, both young and old alike are now being conformed into the Image of the Beast (Satan’s Antichrist world-system) via today’s high-tech devices!**

.

HABAKKUK SAYS, “RUN!”

.

**And so, just what is the message for God’s people concerning these things? “RUN!”, as Habakkuk 2:2 warns us!**

.

Yes, Habakkuk foretold of this very day…“And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

.

Habakkuk is written in veiled, allegorical language, but speaks of this very day in which the people of the world will surround God’s people to the point that our spiritual sensibilities will be so greatly confused and our consciences blunted, so that we are unable to make good spiritual decisions (read this website’s devotional series, Habakkuk Says “Run!”)

EVIL COMMUNICATIONS CORRUPT!

If ever there was a time to run from mass-media, it is now!

Otherwise, we may get caught up and infected with all the hatred now being injected into television’s viewing audiences!

WINTER CONSTELLATIONS

.

This most amazing phenomenon is seen throughout the winter. Although it can be observed most of the winter, it is seen best when it is the western part of the sky, at winter’s end (The end of winter being the final scene of this heavenly Gospel story). Orion , the Dragon, and the Glorious White Horse are beginning to descend into the western horizon (sketch to right is Winter Constellations descending into western horizon. This can actually be seen as early as December, in the pre-dawn hours).

.

And at this point it is apparent that the Fleeing Woman of Revelation 12 Constellation is veering toward the two bright stars, known as Castor and Pollux (sketch to left). But the Wide Gate Stars are composed of the two brightest stars of the Auriga Constellation, known as the star, Capella, and the star, Menkalinan. The two stars, Castor and Pollux, make up the concept of the Orion’s Narrow Gate Stars.

.

This can even be observed into June in the western sky (for a short time just after dark). While a dark night is best for seeing the Woman Constellation, the 4 stars which comprise the Narrow Gate/Wide Gate Stars can be seen even under mediocre conditions. It begins with the Fleeing Woman of Revelation 12 Constellation (AKA Ursa Major) going towards these two doors.

.

The sketch to left shows, the two doors are each composed of two bright stars. The two bright stars that comprise the Narrow Gate are the two brightest stars of the Orion the Reaper’s sickle. The two stars that comprise the ‘Wide Gate’ Stars are the two brightest stars of the wave of water that comes out of the Dragon Constellation’s mouth (for explanation of “Wave of Water”, just click here). The stars that make up the ‘Narrow Gate’ are about half the width of the Wide Gate (see sketch below left).

Strategically placed, facing all those who wait to have their purchases checked out, was one of those weekly tabloids.

.

On the cover was a very unflattering photo of a certain world-renowned celebrity from decades past.

.

Now what made this photo even more shocking was that this certain celebrity was one of those “lucky ones” who seemed to possess a timeless beauty through the years.

.

But finally, that current tabloid photo unmercifully exposed her as looking almost scary!

.

FATHER TIME’S RUTHLESS THUGS!

.

For those of us who have lived six or seven decades, this type of incident becomes all too familiar.

.

All those “beautiful people” we grew up with, are not so beautiful anymore!

.

They are now termed as being “has-beens”.

.

Their formerly golden voices are now an octave lower!

.

**Their once fresh-faced presence which, once-upon-a-time, graced the “silver-screen” is now a thing of the past.**

.

**And even those “fortunate-few” who seemed to age gracefully, eventually all get likewise mugged by “Father Time’s hit-men”!**

“WHAT IS YOUR LIFE?…A VAPOR!”

Yes, those of us who have survived long enough to see the aging process run its course from start-to-finish, life here on Planet Earth now shows its ugly reality.

.

And as we grow old and wrinkled ourselves, we see a new generation of fresh-faced celebrities who have risen up to replace the ones we grew up with.

VANITY OF VANITIES! ALL IS VANITY (MEANINGLESS)!

Of course, this generational phenomenon only reminds us of Solomon’s question…

“Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity! What profit has a man of all his labour which he takes under the sun? One generation passes away, and another generation comes:” Ecclesiastes 1:2-4

.

Yes, the older we get, the more sense these above words begin to make!

.

But you couldn’t convince us of this truth when we were young and strong!

.

Death seemed so far off back then!

.

“I’ll cross that bridge somewhere down the line”, we attempt to convince ourselves, as we squint our eyes to blur the grim reality of our future date with destiny.

FASTER THAN A SPEEDING LOCOMOTIVE!

But, what young people just do not understand nor consider is, that our life is like a train which keeps gaining speed, the nearer it gets to our final encounter with eternity!

Time speeds up with each passing decade!

.

People, especially the young, just don’t realize how quickly our 5 or 6, or 7 decades of life pass by!

WHICH WORLD WILL I CHOOSE?

And so, the question which each of us really need to ask ourselves is this: “Why am I placing so much time and energy into the things of this very temporary and fragile world?

.

“When right before me exists the Fountain of Life, why do I refuse to drink its life-giving waters of grace?

.

“Are the glittering treasures and fleeting pleasures of this short life so much more valuable than the eternal life which Jesus holds out to us?”

Jesus spoke the following words…“And every one that heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:” Matthew 7:26

Jesus here presents a picture of a foolish man who built his house on sand. And for a time, he enjoyed his temporal life, thinking it would never crumble.

.

But sooner or later tragedy does indeed come!

.

And all the treasures which we stored up over the decades, are quickly taken away, just like all those sandy castles, eventually get washed away by the incoming tide on the seashore!

.

GOOD NEWS!

But the very Good News is, that today is still the Day of Salvation!

And those of us who have come to realize how futile and fragile are the fleeting treasures and vain pleasures of this short life, still have time to turn away from our “castle made of sand” and begin to build a house which will never crumble nor get washed away!

Listen again to Jesus…“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a Rock:” Matthew 7:24, 25

.

The question is, am I going to end up my life as a fool or as a wise man? God has given me only two choices: to either build my house upon a sandy foundation, or to build it on the Solid Rock!

FLOWER OF THE FIELD IN HEAVEN

This is perhaps one of the most amazing constellations that God has created. It truly looks like a flower, and appears to be blowing in the direction of westward. But as autumn draws near, this constellation appears to bow itself down, just like the flowers of Earth bow down, at the summer’s end.

.

And these are not merely obscure stars. These are among the biggest and brightest stars in the night heavens.

.

**The Two Turtle-Doves Constellation is also known as Sagittarius .**

The Flower of the Field is also known as Scorpio .

.

But there is another obvious aspect to this constellation group. Notice that the birds are flying in the same direction as the flower is bending; it is as if the east wind is blowing these heavenly messengers. “The wind blows where it desires, and you hear the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it comes, and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. John 3:8. So here is another incredible Bible concept, written in the heavens! And God has spoken of these signs! Listen… “For ever, O LORD, Thy word is settled in (the) heaven(s).” Psalm 119:89

To the right is a star-chart from Wikipedia. The editor of this site has sketched in the Flower of the Field Constellation on this constellation commonly referred to as the Scorpio Constellation (plus a few other close-by bright stars). Do you see the long blade of grass growing from the base of the Flower of the Field? This is made of the two highest stars of the Lupus Constellation, and the two lowest stars of the Libra Constellation. As this sketch shows, the flower appears to be pointing to Arcturus and the Revelation 12 Woman (shown in sketch below). Arcturus represents Jesus, as He leads His sons (and daughters) on a spiritual journey up a heavenward pathway, as is written… “Canst you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or can you guide Arcturus with his sons?” Job 38:32.

A lady once made a comment concerning some of the more boisterous evangelists and preachers that are often heard on television today… “I just don’t like people shouting good words at me!”

.

And it’s understandable why this lady felt the way she did!

.

After all, it’s very easy to turn the channel, only to hear some religious television or radio station, with somebody, “shouting ‘good’ words”!

.

A LIE OFTEN REPEATED

One Nazi Commander, Joseph Goebbels, more or less made the following statement, “A lie repeated often enough becomes the truth…”

A FORCEFUL WORLD!

This truth spoken of by Goebbels could be expanded just a bit to read as follows…“A lie repeated often enough (and with overwhelming force) becomes the truth.”

Yes, we now live in a world which presently is coming against the truths of Heaven with great power and force.

TALKING IMAGE NOW POSSIBLE!

With the advent of television, radio, and Internet, Satan can now hammer his false doctrines on a 24/7/365 basis, all over the world!

And with talking images, via television and Internet, the prophecy from Revelation 13:15 has arrived at a dramatic fulfillment…“And he (the 2nd Beast) had power to give life unto the image of the (1st) beast, that the image of the (1st) beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the (1st) beast should be killed.”

Here is seen that for the first time in history, man has created an image which has the ability to speak. And television (and Internet) appears to be a dramatic fulfillment of that “speaking image”. After all, the very name, “television” means, “a speaking vision”, or, “a talking image”.

WORLD-WIDE INDOCTRINATION

.

And so, Satan now has the ability to cause the entire world to become transformed into Satan’s image.

.

Because by repeating his half-truths, and out-and-out lies throughout the day and night, via TV, radio, and Internet, the public will blindly accept these oft-repeated deceptions.

.

BIBLE TEACHERS OF THE AIR

.

For instance, there are a large number of Bible teachers on radio and television and Internet who mingle false doctrines along with the Gospel upon their listeners throughout the day and night!

.

And these Bible teachers are not content to present all the relevant verses to prove their teachings. But they must ignore certain verses which seem to refute their teachings.

.

And so, their audience does not hear both sides of the issue, but only get a lop-sided, heavily biased teaching.

FORCING THE CONSCIENCE

But there is another tactic which false teachers often employ.

.

So very often these false teachers are very dogmatic and forceful, to the point that their audience will be afraid to disagree for fear of being ridiculed!

.

Yes, these false teachers do not believe in allowing their audience to make up their own minds on any given subject. But rather, they use demeaning, derogatory denunciations and harsh, sarcastic mockery against anyone who disagrees with them! And so, by use of such force, they end up violating the consciences of their listeners!

FORCE USED THROUGHOUT CHURCH HISTORY

Of course, this is nothing new. It was a tactic often used by apostate church authorities throughout history to keep their “flock” from straying!

.

But now, with the advent of these high-tech devices, Satan can use the very best-of-the-best false teachers to keep the people under bondage to the apostate church.

.

HEAVEN’S WAYS ARE GENTLE, PURE & MEEK

In contrast to the forceful way that Satan indoctrinates the world, Heaven uses just the opposite means…

This above verse lays out the way that Heaven entreats the hearts of men. But those forceful Bible teachers who refuse to follow this above blueprint for Heaven’s way of teaching, actually enlist the service of Satan by using his dictatorial iron-like ways!

“STUDY TO SHOW THYSELF APPROVED”

So what can a Christian do about this very overwhelming situation?

Well, the very first thing is to study the Bible for one’s own self, to get a first-hand knowledge of what the Bible actually says.

“HE SPAKE AS A DRAGON”

.

But the second thing is to stop listening to the false teachers who speak as a dragon, as is written… “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.” Revelation 13:11

.

Here is revealed that this False Prophet, spoken of in Revelation 13:11 appears like a two-horned lamb, but he speaks as a dragon! And of course, Satan is spoken of as a dragon (see Revelation 12:3, 4).

.

And doesn’t this description of a lamb-like prophet that speaks as a dragon seem to correspond to many of today’s false teachers on television, radio and Internet? Outwardly, they sound so nice and friendly and Christlike, and yet present their teachings in a way that makes you fearful of being called an heretic if you dare challenge their authority!

.

What they are actually doing is trampling on your conscience’s ability to make a proper decision concerning what the Bible actually says or doesn’t say!

THE FIVE FOOLISH VIRGINS STARS

.

A new constellation has been revealed, as of about May 29th, 2014. This constellation appears as a serpent (snake). Its body is comprised of stars from the Bootes Constellation, and its jaws are made of the four stars which Babylonians saw as the head of Draco, the Dragon. It also has a small single star for an eye.

.

Now in this constellation is a group of five stars, which will be called “The Five Foolish Virgins Stars”. These are located on the opposite side of the Glorious Crown of 12 Stars (AKA Corona Borealis), from the Five Wise Virgins Stars. But one big difference between the two is, that The Five Wise are curved around the Glorious Crown, while the Five Foolish are curved away from it!

“Mental Illness & The Spirit Of Fear!”

2nd Timothy 1:7

This above passage from 2nd Timothy makes a very startling revelation: that ongoing fear is actually a spiritual problem, and not merely a manifestation of our emotions!

JESUS CONDEMNED THIS EVIL WORLD

.

So why should it be any surprise that the world would hate this Bible truth?

.

After all, why did the world crucify Jesus, 2,000 years ago?

Was it because He was complimenting them and their world?

.

Absolutely NOT!

.

No, but rather, Jesus explained to His unsaved brethren…“The world cannot hate you; but Me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.” John 7:7

As this verse reveals, the world hated Jesus because He condemned this sinfully selfish world-system! And if Jesus came to this world today, instead of back then, we would put Him right up there on the Cross, as well!

THE WORLD: A COSMIC BATTLEFIELD

Well, let’s listen again to our signature Bible verse…“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2nd Timothy 1:7

So how could this be? Why is God calling fear, “a spirit”?

.

What so many Christians do not fully understand is that this world is a cosmic battlefield between the armies of Heaven & Hell: goodness and evil (which includes pretentious goodness)!

THE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST

Listen to Ephesians…“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:” Isaiah 2:2

**Here it says that all “children of disobedience” (the citizens of this world), are being led by evil spirits, who are now working in them.**

THE TWO SPIRITS CONTROLLING THIS WORLD

Now couple this fact concerning the indwelling spirit of Antichrist, with the truth that Believers have the Holy Spirit working in them, and it becomes manifest that a human either has one spirit or the other spirit working in them…

Listen…“They (Antichrists) are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.” 1st John 4:5, 6

So here is revealed that this Antichrist world is controlled by the “spirit of error”, while God’s people are led by the “Spirit of Truth”.

And so, just how does this knowledge relate to our main topic today, concerning mental illness?

Simple, so much of mental illness has to do with fear.

Now here is seen that true worshipers of God are not being actuated by the spirit of fear, but they are rather filled with, “power, love and a sound mind”!

“DOCTRINES OF DEVILS”

**So, if these things are true, then just what is this entire branch of medicine, called “psychiatry”?**

Well, simply put, psychiatry is merely one of Satan’s, “doctrines of devils”! 1st Timothy 4:1

As Paul also told Timothy in the same letter…“O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called…” 1st Timothy 6:20 Here is a strong warning, especially critical in these last days in which false sciences and false ideologies are blowing from every which direction!

And so, it is no surprise that the people of this world have come up with this false science of Psychiatry, as well as the false science of Evolution.

And of course, the human race will defend these false philosophies even to the death (the death of those who oppose these worldly doctrines, that is.)

PERFECT PEACE POSSIBLE!

Well, just what can those who are victims of Satan do to be rid of their so-called mental illness?

The Bible tells us that…“Thou (God) wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed upon Thee.”

Yes, to have one’s mind fixed upon Jesus will begin to radically change one’s life!

.

It will fill that person with perfect peace.

PSALM 1: PRESCRIPTION FOR VICTORY!

But then, someone will ask, “But how can I possibly keep my mind totally fixed upon Jesus all through the day?”

Well, this is a very pertinent question! And the answer is found in this next Bible verse…“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD (the Bible); and in His law (the Bible) doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,” Psalm 1:1-3

So right here is the very first Psalm is the recipe for success: to shun all ungodliness, and to meditate upon the Bible, day and night!

CONTINUE IN BIBLE STUDY

Now of course, becoming a mature Bible student will not happen instantaneously! No, but rather, we must continue in God’s Word, just as Jesus explained to the skeptics…“If ye continue in My Word, then are ye My disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31, 32

.

And so, to truly become a disciple of Jesus requires one to continue in God’s Word, day-by-day, month-by-month, until we see the Lord coming in the clouds of Heaven!

Yes, perseverance is required in true Christianity!

.

BEWARE OF FANATICISM

Now, we must always be reminded that one of Satan’s most effective ways of destroying his opponents is that of raising up fanatics.

This method is especially powerful in this high-tech age, since it only requires one or two fanatics to make national news.

These wild-eyed fanatics always make a profession of true Christian faith, eventually give true Christianity a black eye, in one way or another.

Both Jesus as well as Paul encountered demoniacs during their ministry who made loud proclamations of faith.

Even Martin Luther once complained about a large counterfeit group claiming to be his followers. These fanatics threw away their Bibles, claiming to receive direct messages from the “Holy Spirit”….“These cry out, ‘the Spirit, the Spirit’. But what spirit they speak of, I KNOW NOT!”

And so, each and every one of us, whether we are considered, “mentally ill”, or we are deemed, “normal”, we all have a battle to fight and a victory to win!

And through 100% devotion, through unceasing prayer, and through unceasing contemplation of God’s Word, coupled with daily Bible study, we have all these necessary tools to fight and to win the battle over the forces of evil which control the peoples of the world!

And one day, when we finally come to a stable and mature walk with the Lord, we may feel the time has come to stop our medication. But whether we do, or even if we never discontinue, we may nonetheless enjoy a rich relationship with Jesus.

“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.

God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God,

and God in him.

Herein is our love made perfect,

that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment:

because as He is, so are we in this world.”

1st John 4:16, 17

.

So as we examine this above statement by the Apostle, John, we see that it refers to the Day of Judgment in relation to our becoming totally Christ-like… “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.”

.

Well, in our quest to find out just what was the secret to John’s success in achieving total Christ-likeness, it was decided that both Paul and John had become totally devoted to achieving totally Christ-likeness! And this was the focus of yesterday’s devotional (click here to read).

But we need more practical ways of achieving this heavenly prize!

GRACE THAT WORKS!

.

Oh yes, we know that from a heavenly vantage point, our Salvation is all the product of grace.

.

But God wants us to be players in all these things! He doesn’t want us to merely drift off in some doctrinal fatalism, or cringe in fear of being accused of, “working our way to Heaven”. No, but God wants us to work as if Salvation IS by our own works, even though we realize that it is totally by grace alone.

.

And this great work is totally by grace, through the promptings of the indwelling Spirit of Holiness…

.

GOD WORKS WITHIN

.

Listen… “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12, 13

.

Here in this above statement by Paul, it is revealed that while we seem to be working out our Salvation with fear and trembling, it is actually God who is working behind the scenes within us.

PERFECT PEACE

.

Now in today’s devotional, the focus will turn to another aspect of dwelling in God’s love. This aspect is found in Isaiah 26:3…“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.”

.

Yes, here is one of the most powerful statements found in Scripture! It is perhaps the Granddaddy of all precious promises! It is the most joyful and hopeful of all statements in Scripture!

.

Perfect peace! What the world yearns for but never finds! Perfect peace! What the Christian world professes to be all about, but never yet has achieved!

.

FALLING INTO THE MIRE

.

Oh yes, when life is going our way, and all is tranquil and serene, we might fancy ourselves to have peace-of-mind.

.

But just as soon as some store clerk makes a tiny insult, we instantly “lose our cool”, as they say. Or somebody yells at us!

.

Or when some discouraging news is announced, our thoughts instantly become immersed in fear, or in sadness, or in grief, or in despair!

.

So just how can we achieve that same unwavering faith and love that John enjoyed?

.

How can we keep our minds stayed upon Christ, as Isaiah promised?

PRECIOUS PROMISES

.

Well, we need to turn to Peter’s revelation… “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2nd Peter 1:4

.

You see, it is only by the great and precious Bible promises, that we can maintain perfect peace! In other words, whenever something comes up, which attempts to mar or obliterate that perfect peace, it is only by clinging to God’s precious promises that we can keep from sinking in a sea of doubts.

WHAT WILL I CHOOSE?

.

For example, if I get the news that my employer might possibly be cutting 500 jobs in the near future, then how am I to react? Do I go into a “tail-spin”, as they say? Do I begin to worry and fret and obsess over this possible future catastrophe?

.

Well, instead of sinking into grief, there is one precious promise I can rather choose to cling to… “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:34

.

Yes, in light of this encouragement from Matthew’s Gospel, why should I borrow tomorrow’s supposed troubles? Why not rather just do what I can do today, and leave tomorrow in God’s hands?

ANOTHER PROMISE

.

Well of course, there are many other promises which will come to my rescue in such times of discouragement! For instance, here’s another Bible promise…“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

.

Yes, this promise is also a great comfort during times of impending economic crisis! God shall supply all our need!

But wait a minute! One thing we must remember! Do you recall that little Christian song… “How can you stand of the promises of God, if you don’t know what they are?”

Yes, each and every one of us can do a much better job of spending much more time in God’s Word, seeking out those precious promises, which are hidden between each and every verse of the Bible!

There’s a whole lot of people who are very bothered about the oppressive laws which are beginning to be created!

.

Yes, this nation, as of late, seems to be exhibiting some qualities of totalitarianism. And tragically, this “Land of Liberty” in which we grew up in, seems to be morphing into…uh…well…into something else.

.

And even more unnerving is that our children do not even realize what’s going on, because they have been educated to accept all this change, yes, even to embrace it!

IT’S ALL FALLING APART!

.

But we are shocked and amazed at what we now see!

.

When we see Christian businessmen having to close up shop, it is very disconcerting!

.

When we hear the courts handing down unjust decisions, we are filled with anger!

.

When we read that huge corporations paying off congressmen, to oppress us, we feel helpless!

.

When the schools begin to promote sexual perversion, we are amazed and confounded!

.

When false and oppressive religions move in and begin to take over the very nations which once enthusiastically embraced the Christian Reformation, we are greatly saddened!

.

The television, the radio, the Internet, newspapers and magazines are beginning to appear like brainwashing machines, even now embracing censorship of opposing viewpoints!

.

The young people pass by on the streets, wearing pagan-like ornaments, and greet us with a growl or a scowl…or worse!

.

We hear their violent music filled with obscenities!

.

We read of unthinkable crimes!

.

Our government is committing financial suicide!

.

Public nudity beginning to be legalized!

.

Unisex bathrooms now replacing the old gender-based restrooms!

.

Children being kidnapped and sold into slavery by the millions!

.

Churches now beginning to embrace the morals of Sodom and Gomorrah!

.

You could probably sum up the whole world situation today, by merely saying… “judgment is turned away backward, and justice stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.” Isaiah 59:14

.

Yes, justice and goodness and truth seem to be dying, as far as this world is concerned!

WHAT’S THE ANSWER?

So, what are we to think about all this? And what can we do about all this? And how are we supposed to have “perfect peace” in a world that is beginning to fall into the bottomless pit of Hell, or so it seems?

.

GOD’S WORD THE ANSWER!

.

Well, God’s Word is still just as valid today, as it was back in the day when it was first penned!

.

And it is filled with “exceeding great and precious promises” which are true and powerful and living and active! (2nd Peter 1:4)

.

And it is by those promises, that God’s people will get through this growing crisis!

.

“THE TRYING OF YOUR FAITH WORKETH PATIENCE”

James 1:3

But let’s just “cut to the chase”, as the saying goes, in regard to today’s devotional.

.

You see, this devotional proposes the following idea, concerning the frightful condition of today’s world: all these seemingly devastating changes going on are merely being allowed by God for the perfection of His saints. Yes, the madness occurring all around us has been explicitly allowed by God, to push us in the direction of Jesus!

.

You see, our weak human nature only makes us lethargic and complacent. We really don’t want to run the Christian race. We would rather just comfortably fit in! We would rather be “cozy & comfy”, living a smooth and blissful existence. We don’t want to be cold, or destitute, or persecuted, or uncomfortable, like Paul, for instance.

.

And God understands all this. And for many decades, He has allowed us to live in this opulent and hedonistic society, so as to fill us up with our own selfishness and disregard for the Salvation of the world.

.

“…yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered;”

Hebrews 5:8

.

**But as we look at the life of Jesus, we see a noble Being, whose feet were as “burnished brass”, because of the many fiery trials He suffered through His rather short life on earth.**

.

In other words, it was the trials which Jesus endured which perfected His character…

.

Listen… “Though He (Jesus) were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered;” Hebrews 5:8

.

So here we see that Christ suffered for the reason of becoming fully perfected. (Now of course, Jesus was already obedient. But just like His baptism, His suffering was also to be an example for us to follow in His footsteps.)

SUFFERING WITH CHRIST

.

And the trials before us will cause us to let go of our dependence upon worldly institutions and earthly supports, so that we can fully lean upon Christ.

.

For instance, statistics show that most Christian children attend public schooling. And while this has never been a good thing, it now becomes fully manifest that public schooling is absolutely soul-destroying because of the perversions which are now beginning to be promoted.

.

And even though television has always been very detrimental to the souls of God’s people, it is now getting so bad, that even the best of shows are no longer safe to watch!

.

NO MORE TRUSTING IN MAN

.

Well, it appears that it could be just a matter of time until we will be pushed out of our houses, and jobs.

.

Yes, it looks like God is now allowing the once-trusted institutions to fail, so that we will no longer be able to trust in Man…

.

TIME TO FLEE!

.

Listen to this prophecy…“In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; To go into the clefts of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He ariseth to shake terribly the earth. CEASE YE FROM MAN, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?” Isaiah 2:20-22

.

This passage speaks specifically of the day we are now entering in. And so, now we can begin to understand just why God’s people are to cast away our earthly idols and run to those “ragged rocks” of the Bible, “for fear of the Lord and for the glory of His majesty!”

Fortunately, we can look at the positive side of all this bad news!

Yes, as Paul tells us… “But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” Romans 5:20

The fact is, God will use all these horrible circumstances to perfect His people, that we might stand firm, while the world is being decimated!

.

And we have this following promise… “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.” Psalm 91:7, 8

.

And with promises like this, what or who do we need to fear?

Valley Of Decision, Now!

in the ‘Valley of Decision’…

for the day of the Lord is near

in the ‘Valley of Decision’.”

What if someone told you that a great image of the Valley of Decision, spoken of by Joel, the Prophet, was up in the night-sky?

.

Would that make you nervous? It probably would, wouldn’t it?

.

But the fact is, the Valley of Decision is much closer than that!

.

Oh yes, it is even much closer than that Valley of Megiddo, over in there in Palestine!

.

VALLEY COMES TO US IN OUR HEART!

.

You see, the Valley of Decision comes to us right in our very own heart and mind!

.

It is a valley that each and every man, woman, and child must walk through in his or her lifetime! And it can come at any time in one’s life. Perhaps even on the very day prior to a fatal accident!

.

For the unbeliever, it is “the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.” John 1:9, which beckons him to “Go and sell that ye have, and come and follow Me.”

.

And for the one who has already begun to walk the Pilgrim’s Way, to follow Jesus, as a disciple, the Valley of Decision can still yet come to that person, asking the question… “Are you willing to forsake all, and follow Jesus even into that death-to-self, which kills all earthly desires? Are you willing to trade that “self” for the incredible Agape love of Jesus?”

MANY TURNED BACK!

.

Yes, there were many disciples in the days of Jesus’ earthly sojourn, who finally could take no more of His self-sacrificing life, and simply turned away from following Him, and walked no more with Him!

And so, the Valley of Decision comes to us, silently in the night, and asks the question, “Will ye also go away?” John 6:67

.

Well, this article began by asking the question… “What if someone told you that a great image of the Valley of Decision, spoken of by Joel, the Prophet, was up in the night-sky? Would that make you nervous?”

VALLEY OF DECISION NOW APPEARING!

Well, the fact is, the Valley of Decision is up in the night-sky! Yes, there is a constellation group which is called the Valley of Decision Constellation Group.

.

And it first appears in Summer, and comes out each night well into Fall. And it really should make us nervous. Because God is now revealing the Signs Of Heaven promised in Luke 21:25.

.

Listen… “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring…And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:25, 28

And so, it says that… “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

EYE OF THE STORM

In every strong hurricane there is an “eye”, in which winds are relatively light, and there are no clouds.

And this phenomenon can be easily translated into spiritual terms.

TOPSY-TURVY WORLD!

**You see, we are now beginning to enter into the period known as “The Valley of Decision”. The entire world will go through this day of decision.**

.

Now as we look out at the world, we can see that the political, social and religious condition can easily be compared to a hurricane. Things which once seemed as solid as the proverbial “Rock of Gibraltar” are being turned upside down! The marriage institution, the public-school systems, the churches, the militarization of the eastern religions, the business community, and even our very nations. It all seems to be falling apart, exploding, imploding, or whatever term most aptly applies.

It’s happening! It’s all topsy-turvy!

CITIES OF THE NATIONS FALLEN

Listen to this prophecy from Revelation 16:19… “…and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.”

.

Yes, the western nations have grown weak and now appear to be crumbling. The eastern religions seem to be merely moving in and taking over, without much of a struggle! The schools are now beginning to promote immorality and atheistic ideologies. Increasingly, the courts are no longer following the rule of law.

.

Churches are beginning to embrace sexual perversion, divorce & re-marriage, lusting for money-getting, materialism, proud-careers, sensual music, and seemingly every other societal sin, though to a lesser degree.

.

TITANIC: METAPHOR OF THE WORLD

Now with both the world and the churches seemingly coming apart at the seams, the decision to forsake this hopeless and dying world seems to be a very easy one.

.

After all, when the Titanic was sinking, there wasn’t too much decision-making nor debate regarding whether or not to abandon ship! (of course, there weren’t enough life-boats available, and so many could not escape, and later drowned)

.

And so, very much like the Titanic is the current world situation! Everything seems to be falling apart!

.

Listen again… “and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.” Revelation 16:19

SATAN: A SIDE-WINDER!

.

But here’s the main point to this devotional. Yes, we are now in a terrible political-moral-religious storm! Nobody with any common-sense savvy can deny that!

.

But what we need to understand is that Satan is like a wily serpent. And as we know, serpents (snakes) make all sorts of twists and turns! They do not travel in a straight direction.

.

And as this world-wide moment in history, called “The Valley of Decision” comes into its fullness, Satan just might back off for a time. In other words, we might just enter the eye-of-the-storm, spiritually speaking. That is, there could very well be a little season of peace and tranquility which comes over the world.

“BE NOT DECEIVED!”

.

**Now, the Bible repeatedly warns Christians to “Be not deceived!” And so, we must not be fooled by such a time of so-called “peace and safety”.**

Listen to Scripture… “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” 1st Thessalonians 5:3

.

Now, the Christian who is still trying to decide whether or not to forsake this world and all its glittering allurements, will be assailed from every direction! Family, friends, church-members, and all the various voices in society (television, radio, Internet, etc.), will attempt to turn that Christian away from entering into the Ark of safety.

Yes, the Valley of Decision is about to sweep over the whole entire world! And yet, Satan knows that if things seem safe and peaceful, then many undecided individuals may tragically develop a false sense of security. And thinking that all is “peace and safety”, they may make the fatal decision to not enter the Ark of Salvation.

.

Just like the antediluvian world back in Noah’s day, many today may just mock, laugh, and scorn at the idea that the world is about to end!

.

And let’s face it! There were 7 days of calm, just prior to that great destructive deluge!

.

DON’T BE FOOLED!

.

And so, if the world extends a few years longer than we have expected, we must remember that there is always a calm before the storm.

.

Let’s not foolishly misdiagnose the situation!

The galaxy which appears to be climbing the Mountain of Blessing is the Andromeda Galaxy.

“Am I A Pillar of Salt?”

This above verse from Genesis is the command and warning from God to Lot: Lot being the nephew of faithful Abraham.

Yes, God was going to destroy Sodom and its surrounding cities!

Because Sodom had spurned God’s warnings, it had reached its day of the fierce judgment from Almighty God!

And Lot and his family had unknowingly moved to that wicked city, merely for the sake of convenience and prosperity! But Lot came to despise the wickedness of city life!

But by now, Lot was stuck there! His family, no doubt, learned to love the pleasures and conveniences which that opulent city afforded them.

And they grew insensitive to the prevailing wickedness of that city!

MANY PILLARS OF SALT TODAY

It seems that the Christian world today has many pillars of salt.

Yes, there are many churches and denominations today which teach, either by word or by example, to love this present world! And by so-doing, these world-loving churches have become stiff-necked and uncircumcised!

In other words, they no longer are teachable in the ways of Heaven. Outwardly, they seemingly cling to whatever doctrines they still accept, and have a certain moral standard.

MIND CONTROL & INDOCTRINATION

.

When a new “convert” joins a church, denomination, false gospel, or the so-called cults, the immediate action by that religious group is to indoctrinate that new convert into the signature church-doctrines of that particular group.

And on questionable/debatable issues, the new convert gets a very lopsided indoctrination, void of all scriptures which seem to contradict those pet church-doctrines!

.

And so, quite often, the leaders and teachers may begin a constant barrage of biased propaganda designed to solidify their pet doctrines into the minds of that new convert. This is done in hopes of making that convert so thoroughly indoctrinated, that he or she will never “stray from the fold”.

Yes, the church-world today has the very same problem that the people of God had in days of old…

Listen to God’s assessment of both them of old, and of us today… “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” Acts 7:51

This above verse presents a horrible spiritual condition that is so prevalent today! Just try to make biblical sense with a member of any particular church, denomination, teaching group, or so-called cult! You won’t have any success! Oh, they may politely endure what what you say, and then simply move on. They are modern-day “Lot’s wife”. They have become a pillar of salt, spiritually speaking!

NOBLE BEREANS

.

The church at Berea received special commendation from God for their open-mindedness and willingness to re-examine their long-held beliefs, by day-by-day study in the Scriptures…

Listen… “These (Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11

.

This above verse reveals that they searched the scriptures almost hoping that these new ideas were true! In other words, these noble Bereans weren’t just trying to find some flaw in Paul’s teachings, as was the common response to Paul’s seemingly new teachings.

.

But they saw some biblical validity to what Paul was teaching, and hoped these strange new doctrines were true and could be proven by the Bible!

TODAY’S ITCHING-EARS CONDITION

But the Bible prophesys of a coming day: a tragic day in which the churches and denominations, etc., will become a spiritual pillar of salt…

Listen… “For the time will come

when they will not endure sound doctrine;

but after their own lusts

shall they heap to themselves teachers,

having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,

and shall be turned unto fables”

2nd Timothy 4:3, 4

And if you have ever tried to change a church-member’s mind, then you realize that they are unable to hear you! They are solidified! They have been fully indoctrinated into their false gospel! They won’t even take the time to re-examine what they believe, with an open mind!

GOOD NEWS BUT ALSO SAD!

**Now the very Good News (but also very sad) is, that we have come to the day in which God is calling us out of the “City of Confusion”.**

Yes, just as it says… “Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S vengeance; He will render unto her a recompense. Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.” Jeremiah 51:6, 7

.

Yes, just as it says, we must flee out of the midst of Babylon, lest we be, “cut off in her iniquity!” We must, “deliver every man his soul”!

TWO TURTLE-DOVES CONSTELLATION

LOCATING THIS CONSTELLATION

This constellation appears in early spring in the south. It moves from east to west during the night and slowly moves to the western horizon by fall. It is commonly known as Sagittarius. (The three stars at the top of the 2nd Turtle-dove are not shown in some Sagittarius Star-charts, but are in others.)

GOD’S LAST CALL

So these Two Turtle-Doves are a sign of witnessing to a lost and dying world. And it may just be that these Two Turtle-Doves are a sign of God’s last message to the world!

Yes, the Bible says… “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Luke 21:25-27.

And so, if these signs are a fulfillment of Luke’s prophecy, then these Two Turtle-Doves are a symbol of God’s last message of mercy to this world!

Daily Devotional, Year 2 – JUNE 27

.

Eternal Torment?

.

Part 10:

“Endless Stripes?”

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;

and there shall be no more death,

neither sorrow, nor crying,

neither shall there be any more pain:

for the former things are passed away.”

Revelation 21:4

.

A person has to ignore so many scriptures to arrive at the conclusion that the wages of sin is “Eternal Torment”!

.

But more than that, a person has to ignore the character of God, as revealed in the wonderful and glorious character of Jesus Christ.

.

“…HIS THRONE IS UPHOLDEN BY MERCY”

.

Oh yes, God is a God of Judgment! But He also is a God of Mercy!

.

And so, as it is written… “Mercy and truth preserve the King: and His throne is upholden by mercy.” Proverbs 20:28

.

**And so, just how a person could believe the church-doctrine of “Eternal Torment”, while telling the world that God is so tender and merciful, is truly mystifying!**

.

Because, if more than 90% of the world’s inhabitants will be tormented in fire for all eternity, just where is the Good News?

.

A GIANT CLUB

.

Well, on the other hand, the doctrine of “Eternal Torment” does indeed make a giant club to hit over the heads of all rejecters of Christ!

.

It is a huge cudgel to supposedly “force people into submission” to accept Salvation. This “terrifying people into church”, perhaps, is one big reason why the leaders of the churches, through the centuries, have held on to this doctrine.

.

A PARABLE IS MERELY A PARABLE!

.

But just because “Eternal Torment” has been the long-held traditional doctrine of the apostate churches throughout the past centuries, does not make it in the least little bit, a true doctrine!

.

The fact is, one has to diminish many Bible texts and truths to arrive at this unthinkable idea! Even if the Parable of the Rich Man & Lazarus were to be interpreted literally, it could not be discovered that the Rich Man was eternally tormented.

.

**It just doesn’t say anything about “eternal torment” in that parable!**

.

RICH MAN & LAZARUS

.

But truth-be-told, the Rich Man & Lazarus is only a parable, and cannot be interpreted literally.

.

It has just too many inconsistencies and impossibilities for it to be considered anything else but a parable!

.

And parables were not given to be interpreted literally, but rather, to present spiritual and allegorical concepts! That’s why they sometimes make no literal sense!

.

And come on! Who really believes that Lazarus was actually sitting in Abraham’s lap?

.

And who really believes that the lost multitudes will have physical bodies throughout eternity, as the Rich Man had in the parable?

.

Or that he really begged for merely one tiny drop of water? Most people would concede that the drop of water represented a tiny drop of mercy and grace.

.

God has put in these obvious absurdities (and other similar impossibilities) to make it clear that this story is not to be interpreted literally, but spiritually!

.

STRIPES (LASHINGS) ARE NOT ENDLESS

.

Now there is another inconsistency with this church-doctrine known as “Eternal Torment”.

.

Listen… “And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to His will, shall be beaten with many stripes (lashings). But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes.” Luke 12:47, 48

.

Now most teachers apply this beating to the punishment of the wicked throughout eternity. But this above passage cannot be speaking of “Eternal Torment” since those who burn in the Lake of Fire are to supposedly roast in fire throughout the ceaseless ages. This is what the apostate church believes.

.

And let’s face it! “Eternal Torment” could never be considered to be merely forty lashes, but rather “infinite lashes”!

.

And this is the point of today’s devotional. Stripes (lashings) are not endless.

NOT TO EXCEED 40 STRIPES

Listen…“And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number. Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy Brother should seem vile unto thee.” Deuteronomy 25:2, 3

.

This above passage presents a huge concept which many “Eternal Torment” advocates completely miss! People despise an unmerciful judge, don’t they? There have been many books and even movies made which portray an unmerciful judge. And this passage even confirms this truth, when it says, “lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy Brother should seem vile unto thee.” Deuteronomy 25:3

WHO IS MY BROTHER?

.

And in this passage “thy brother” is probably speaking of both the judge, but also, the man being punished, since Jesus is our true Judge, but Jesus also is our true “Brother” (Hebrews 2:11, 12). And this passage too, is the “Spirit of prophecy”, and is the “testimony of Jesus”.

.

**Listen…“for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” Revelation 19:10. And so, the entire Bible is prophetic!**

.

In other words, all those Old Testament Laws were shadows of the Gospel. And they were signs, pointing to Christ. And this Law concerning stripes is also the Spirit of Prophecy, pointing to the Eternal Judgment of God.

.

And so, this whole entire notion that the lost souls will receive endless stripes (lashings) from God is just not supported by the Bible. And it’s certainly not supported by these passages concerning the judgments of receiving stripes!

JESUS NO LONGER ON CROSS

.

And really, if the wages of sin were “Eternal Torment”, then Jesus would still be on the Cross, wouldn’t He? So, because He’s no longer being punished for our sins, this whole notion of “Eternal Torment” doesn’t make a lick of sense! And those who try to philosophize why Jesus did not have to go through “Eternal Torment” can probably “convince the choir” as the saying goes.

.

But those who love the truth will not be satisfied with hearing such convoluted wrestlings with Scripture.

.

We must search the Scriptures for our own selves, with the same nobility of those noble Bereans who, “These (Bereans) were more noble…in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11

Part 36:

“Harold Camping vs. Ellen White”

So, in this little series, the subject of those noble Bereans has been introduced. And today, it is still worthy of a little more exploration into another area of concern.

AN OPEN-MINDED SPIRIT IN BEREA

.

Okay, so those in Berea were more noble, because they:

.

1. “Received the Word with all readiness of mind.”

2. “And searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

And so, the Bereans were ready to receive new teachings, which no doubt, conflicted with the supposed, “orthodox” teachings of that day.

.

Thus there was an open-mindedness which permeated their hearts, and a willingness to search the Scriptures daily, in hopes that these seemingly new teachings were indeed true!

HAROLD CAMPING: ‘ELLEN WHITE A FALSE PROPHET’

.

.

After all, are not both of these two vital messages which White and Camping each proclaimed, prophesied of in Revelation 14!?

Well, Harold Camping’s two main objections to Ellen White was that she believed in the literal observance of the 7th Day Sabbath, and secondly, that God no longer sends direct messages through prophets, but communicates through the Bible only.

CAMPING A LIFELONG ADVOCATE FOR SUNDAY OBSERVANCE

“the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,”

But Harold Camping also strongly believed that God is no longer giving direct revelations nor speaking directly to people, especially considering how many church-attendees now claim to be receiving direct revelations from God.

Yes, the number of those who are supposedly receiving visions, voices, dreams, tongues, etc., is now at almost pandemic levels today!

.

And all this causes a great amount of confusion in the church-world, to say the least, especially considering the unbiblical and often even outrageous behavior of many who supposedly receive these signs and wonders!

.

NOT SO MUCH BACK IN THE 1800’S
