This above passage reveals a great over-arching truth concerning the world we live in: namely, that “the god of this world” has blinded the minds of earth’s inhabitants, so that they may not see the light of Heaven, nor the glory of Jesus.

Yes, the god of this world works overtime to make sure this world’s inhabitants remain prisoners on this “Devil’s Island” prison planet.

SYMPATHIZING WITH ATHEISTS

.

As one who was raised to be an atheist, it is much easier to sympathize with the unbelief that enshrouds the atheistic community and held us all captive in our spiritual darkness.

.

After all, many Christians are former atheists. And so, we know well, what it’s like to be held in bondage to our unbelief!

.

But there are also many people of various other religions, who have grown up believing that God exists. Or at least, they have always believed in a god of one type or another.

.

But for those who have grown up atheists, the thought that a god actually exists doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to them!

.

And likewise, the idea that there exists a literal Devil (i.e., Satan, Lucifer), seems to be an even more ridiculous notion to an atheist!

LIVING IN AN ATHEISTIC SOCIETY

.

And so, just how does a Christian convince an abject atheist that both these unseen personages do actually exist?

.

After all, we live a society in which atheism is highly promoted.

.

And such ideologies and false sciences as evolution are the over-arching philosophies being enforced on our citizens, from the first-grade and upward!

.

And even when Hollywood does produce a horror movie, it usually does so in a way that covertly (with a wink of an eye) acknowledges that no such supernatural phenomena actually exists.

HALLOWEEN TAKEN MORE SERIOUSLY?

And let’s face it! If parents and their children actually believed that evil spirits really existed, then we would probably take such holidays as Halloween much more seriously and guarded!

.

But the fact is, most schools, television, books, newspapers, sciences, Hollywood, etc., thoroughly groom our society to disbelieve in all such “nonsense”.

EVIDENCES OF THE DRAGON

But there are evidences out there, proving, or at least suggesting, that we are living in a world in which a supernatural realm exists.

.

And this website has a series of devotionals which reveal the various witnesses in nature, which testify to the existence of a Divine Creator (click here to read).

But today, let’s “look at the other side of the coin”, as the expression goes. That is, let’s take a moment to explore into the darker side of this world, and see if there is not sufficient evidence that evil spirits do indeed exist.

“THE DARK WEB”

And speaking of the “darker side”, have you noticed that the term, “The Dark Web” now is being mentioned in society? Yes, this term, “The Dark Web” has now been coined to refer to all the criminal activity going on via the Internet.

And this is just another witness that evil truly abounds in this world! Well, doesn’t it? Isn’t evil literally everywhere all around us?

.

It absolutely is!

VIRTUAL MURDERS

Just look at the ever-increasing murder rate! And even senseless murders are now increasing in our societies! Murders being committed simply for the thrill of it all!

And even millions of young people, who don’t physically commit murder are often mesmerized by television shows and video games in which virtual murders must be committed.

.

.

LOOKING NARROWLY UPON LUCIFER

.

Well, the Book of Isaiah prophesied, that in the last days…

“They that see thee (Lucifer) shall narrowly look upon thee,

and consider thee, saying,

Is this the man that made the earth to tremble,

that did shake kingdoms;

That made the world as a wilderness,

and destroyed the cities thereof;

that opened not the house of his prisoners?”

Isaiah 4:16, 17

.

And so, it is our duty to fulfill God’s wishes by taking some time to, “narrowly look upon thee (Lucifer)”, not allowing well-meaning church-goers to brow-beat us by saying, “Oh, you don’t want to talk so much about the Devil! That’s gonna give the Devil too much power!”

.

Much to the contrary, the Bible says…“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” 2nd Corinthians 2:11

.

Yes, we are not to be ignorant of his (Satan’s) devices. But rather, very many faithful church-attendees are quite ignorant of his devices, having been brought up and educated in the antichrist institutions of this world!

“BUT ME (JESUS), IT (THE WORLD) HATETH, BECAUSE I TESTIFY OF IT THAT THE WORKS THEREOF ARE EVIL”

John 7:7

And the fact is, many who try to squelch any talk about the Devil are merely doing so because it makes them very uncomfortable and nervous to hear their beloved world being criticized and exposed for what it truly is: the Devil’s kingdom of sin and selfishness!

.

And most likely, these well-meaning church-going naysayers spend very little time investigating Satan OR CHRIST!

.

And it might surprise us to discover that they instead spend most of their leisure hours in front of the television, or with their sports or with their daily cares.

.

And so, their “warnings” are most likely filled with hypocrisy.

.

.

“FOR BY WISE COUNSEL, THOU SHALT MAKE THY WAR”

Proverbs 24:6

.

But truth-be-told, we must be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves” Matthew 10:16.

.

And the more biblically savvy we become, the greater will be our victory over this world of evil, and over, “the god of this world”, Satan!

DRAGON’S BODY DIFFICULT TO SEE

.

Oh, just one more interesting fact. One reason that this Revelation 12 Dragon’s body is hard to locate is because the Lord wants us to understand that the real Dragon, Satan has virtually erased himself out of existence in eyes of this world’s citizens.

.

Yes, it is to his advantage that nobody believes he exists!

.

And so, only his mouth (Hyades) and his tail tassel (the Pleiades) can be easily located. And this makes sense too, since Satan’s devastation upon the world (symbolized by his vicious dragon-like mouth – Hyades), and the Dragon’s faithful followers (symbolized by his tail-tassel – The Pleiades) can be readily seen up in the night heavens!

First, let it be stated, that this Dragon Constellation is not the same constellation commonly referred to as “Draco” (photo to right is Draco).

This Revelation 12 Dragon from Signs Of Heaven, has not been previously recognized. But you will discover that it is a very intricate and complex constellation, once you are comfortable locating it (picture below, right).

The Revelation 12 Dragon Constellation can be located by finding Orion in winter months.

The Dragon is to Orion’s left, and the Dragon’s mouth is right next to Orion’s shield. This Dragon’s mouth is the V-like constellation The Hyades Cluster, which is also known as the head of Taurus the Bull. The Dragon’s tail-tip is Pleiades and the lower shaft of his tail is partly of Aries  and Pisces. Then with aid of a dark and starry night, you may begin to connect the mouth and the tail with a very long body in an oval shape. The front and back legs are made of a few stars: the front legs partially of stars from Taurus . The back legs and rear fin are made of 6 stars from the Cetus Constellation.

The long oval-shaped body has relatively few stars, but can been seen, howbeit with a dark, starry night. The four stars of the front fins are made partially of Taurus .

PRISONERS OF OUR SELFISH DESIRES

In one particular devotional in this little series (click here), it was put forth that Satan loves to bind the hearts of humans to our selfish desires, thereby keeping us willing slaves to this world by reason of our chains of selfishness.

Yes, the “god of this world” fills his loyal subjects with the various “desires of the flesh and of the mind”, so much so that we become captives to our earthly lusts. (see 2nd Corinthians 4:4 & Ephesians 2:3)

“OF WHOM THE WAY OF TRUTH SHALL BE EVIL SPOKEN OF”

But the Devil is not content in merely turning us into slaves to our own lusts.

No, but he also works tirelessly to cast dirt upon the Bible by any means possible.

Whether he does so by raising up lawless fanatics who pretend to be Believers, but who eventually make a mockery of true faith.

.

Or perhaps he raises up some cultist leader who leads a group of followers into a suicide pact.

.

Or maybe he causes some money-crazed televangelist to fall into adultery, or into embezzlement of church donations, or some other public sin.

.

Or he detours and side-tracks Christians into becoming social crusaders against the sins of society.

.

Or he even has caused various denominations to embrace such doctrinal heresies as “Eternal Torment”, thus making God appear to be some merciless monster-tyrant.

Or he raises up some prosperity-driven gospel in which parishioners begin seeking after the pleasures and treasures and ambitiously proud pursuits of this decadent cornucopian super-society.

The end-result of all these devilish tactics is that Christianity gets a black eye, and abject mockers are further emboldened in their loud and defiant criticisms of God’s messengers!

And as it says in 2nd Timothy…

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil,

who are taken captive by him at his will.”

2nd Timothy 2:25, 26

Yes, it is only God who can open the blind eyes of any human. And it is only God who can free a soul from Satan’s prison-house of sin.

And without the grace of God, it is impossible for mere humans to see through the thick fog of deception and lies which envelop this hopeless world of sin.

So, in this little series, the subject of those noble Bereans has been introduced. And today, it is still worthy of a little more exploration into another area of concern.

Let’s review the key Bible passage…

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea:

who coming there, went into the synagogue of the Jews.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,

in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,

and searched the scriptures daily,

whether those things were so.”

AN OPEN-MINDED SPIRIT IN BEREA

Okay, so those in Berea were more noble, because they:

.

1. “Received the Word with all readiness of mind.”

.

2. “And searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

.

And so, the Bereans were ready to receive new teachings, which no doubt, conflicted with the supposed, “orthodox” teachings of that day.

.

Thus there was an open-mindedness which permeated their hearts, and a willingness to search the Scriptures daily, in hopes that these seemingly new teachings were indeed true!

HAROLD CAMPING

.

In this time of great apostasy, God raised up a faithful minister: one who could not only understand the Bible’s time prophecies, but also could correct many of the doctrinal errors which had crept in unawares, causing the church-world to become greatly mired down in Babylonish confusion.

This man was Harold Camping, whom God gave voice through a world-wide radio ministry, and great knowledge by studying the Bible for an average of 5 or 6 hours per day over a fifty-year span.

A SOLA SCRIPTURA THEOLOGIAN

Mr. Camping was not groomed by the apostate seminaries of our day, but instead, diligently compared “line upon line”, and, “spiritual things with spiritual”, so that instead of quoting this author or that commentary, Camping merely quoted the Bible in his 90 minute nightly call-in talk show and his 25 minute daily Bible studies.

.

He loved the Bible more than life itself, and sang its praises night after night, for over 50 years, well into his 90’s!

.

MANY IMITATORS & IMPOSTORS

.

Now of course, Satan knew that Camping’s ministry would eventually lead to the call to “Come out of her (Babylon), My people”, and so he raised up many impostors who made similar time predictions, which obviously failed, causing the church-world to become even more hardened against the idea that Babylon was actually the world (which included the world-loving churches).

.

But because Camping’s message included the pronunciation that the local congregations were an integral part of Babylon, the World, Satan had little trouble raising the prideful ire and disdainful anger of most every local congregation and denomination around the world!

“THE ACCUSER OF OUR BRETHREN”

.

And let’s not forget that Satan’s main office is that of being, “the accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10). And just as Lucifer came through the serpent to accuse God in the ears of Eve, so too, he now comes to the world’s inhabitants (including world-loving church-members) and accuses God’s true worshipers.

ANY NOBLE BEREANS OUT THERE?

.

Now, amidst all the current-day apostasy and hard-hearted unbelief, God still has a faithful remnant whose ears are open to receiving further truth, even though it may often rub against grain of the present-day doctrines of the so-called “orthodoxy”.

.

And these faithful ones are the “Noble-Bereans”, who aren’t afraid to search the Scriptures, daily, and even monthly, in hopes that this new message is from God and not merely the product of human thought.

.

Yes, God will bring His faithful remnant through these end-time messages symbolized by the three angels of Revelation 14, as well as the angel of Revelation 18.

.

No, Harold Camping was not an angel, but a human messenger, who wasn’t perfect in his understanding, but nonetheless had been given much insight into many of the deeper truths of Scripture!

GET READY, GET READY, GET READY!

But praise God that He has graciously extended the final Day of the Lord, to allow God’s people to search out these matters.

.

If Christ had actually come on May 21st, 2011, practically none of us would have been prepared to meet our God in peace!

.

Much to the contrary, we were mostly steeped in eating and drinking and the cares and pleasures of this life, even to the point of losing our soul!

.

And so, let none of God’s true sheep feel a smug self-assurance regarding Camping’s supposed error. God merely allowed that seemingly failed trumpet call to be a preparation-day wake-up call for His true remnant church to get our heavenly armor on, and prepare to stand in the final battle!

.

And so, may the Lord give each of us great insight and understanding in this end-time message!

So, in this little series, the subject of those noble Bereans has been introduced.

And today, it is still worthy of a little more exploration into another area of concern.

Let’s look at the key Bible passage…

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,

in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,

AN OPEN-MINDED SPIRIT IN BEREA

Okay, so those in Berea were more noble, because they:

.

1. “Received the Word with all readiness of mind.”

.

2. “And searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

.

And so, the Bereans were ready to receive new teachings, which no doubt, conflicted with the supposed, “orthodox” teachings of that day.

.

Thus, there was an open-mindedness which permeated their hearts, and a willingness to search the Scriptures daily, in hopes that these seemingly new teachings were indeed true!

Many accusations have been leveled over the past decades against Ellen G. White by the so-called “orthodox” churches, and even by some within the 7th-Day Adventist Church.

.

Some criticisms have been petty, while other accusations have been somewhat more serious.

.

But for those of us who have tried to be “good Bereans” by thoroughly researching her life, we realize how hollow most or perhaps all of those accusations really are!

“THE ACCUSER OF OUR BRETHREN IS CAST DOWN”

Now of course, we understand that Satan is the real “accuser”. And in his role as “Accuser-In-Chief”, Satan has done a marvelous job over the past 2,000 years in besmirching, belittling, mocking, accusing, and in concise terms, casting mud upon God’s people.

.

“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven…

the accuser of our brethren is cast down,

which accused them before our God, day and night.”

Revelation 12:10

.

This above verse reveals that Satan does not cease, nor ever has, from casting false accusations down upon truth and upon those who speak Bible truth!

SATAN HAS ALWAYS STIGMATIZED THE TRUTH

.

And so, it should be no surprise that from the time of the Roman emperors, to the raising up of the ruthless and apostate churches of Europe, to plaguing such reformers as Martin Luther with some fanatical followers, the Church-elect has suffered at the cruel hand of Satan and his vast armies, both human and angelic.

.

And day-and-night, this ardent foe of Heaven has come as an “angel of light”, along with his so-called, “ministers of righteousness”, false brethren, to stigmatize God’s people in the eyes of the onlooking world. (See 2nd Corinthians 11:14, 15)

LOOK-ALIKE ‘CULTS’

.

Now in Ellen White’s day, Satan (who is a masterful Bible student), knew that God was soon going to raise up her ministry to proclaim the 3-Angel’s message.

.

And so, he wasted no time raising up several cults in a largely successful counterattack to confuse the onlooking world concerning her heavenly-ordained ministry.

.

Yes, and these so-called “cults” had similar aspects to her ministry, thus making it very confusing and difficult for the unlearned multitudes, to discern between them.

.

And let’s face it! These cults also had some obviously false doctrines mingled into their teachings which were generally a real “turn-off” to anyone who was familiar with the basic fundamental doctrines of the Bible.

“ORTHODOX” CHURCHES TRADE AWAY TRUTH FOR TRADITION

.

But in addition to their false teachings, Satan included some truths which the apostate churches of Europe had long-before discarded: such truths as the true nature of Hell, actually being “The Grave”, which was traded away for the Catholic false doctrine of “Eternal Torment”. (This was the result of taking out of context, a few passages, while ignoring scores of other passages which speak of Hell as “The Grave”.)

.

And so now, all anyone had to do was say…“Hey, every cult shares this same teaching regarding Hell being the grave!”

.

And so, since these “cults” mostly all reject ‘Eternal Torment’, they cast even further aspersion on Ellen White’s assertion that the Bible teaches that Hell is the grave and is the true eternal destiny for all rejecters of Salvation.

A HEAVY BURDEN FOR NOBLE BEREANS

Well, God obviously allowed Satan to raise up those look-alike gospels. And of course, this stumbling block makes it even more difficult for churchgoers to discern between the true and the counterfeit.

But those who are truly “Noble Bereans” will, by the grace of God, continue to search “the Scriptures daily, to see whether those things were so”. Acts 17:11

.

“MARVEL NOT, MY BRETHREN, IF THE WORLD HATE YOU!”

And just one word of warning to all those “Noble Bereans” who actually do discover the truth in all these things.

.

Do not expect to be applauded for your efforts in your quest for truth.

.

No, Satan has already so greatly stigmatized the messages of Revelation 14, that all you can expect is to suffer persecution for your beliefs. 

.

But really, haven’t we been sufficiently warned this will happen? After all, even Jesus warns us…

“yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you

will think that he doeth God service…

and ye shall be hated of all nations for My name’s sake.”

John 16:2 & Matthew 24:9

A LIFE ABOVE REPROACH

Yes, Ellen White’s life was above reproach in most every respect. But as can be expected, Satan has used unsanctified minds to dredge up any and every possible criticism against that little lady. From hypocrisy concerning her diet counsels, to having the police come to her home once, to plagiarism in her writings, to being a false prophet, and a cult leader, to attempting to put the Church under Old Testament Law.

“In regard to infallibility, I never claimed it”

.

Truly, Satan and his armies have left no stone un-turned in attempting to cast mud on Ellen White. And contrary to popular opinion, she never claimed her writings to be infallible…“We have many lessons to learn, and many, many to unlearn.

God and Heaven alone are infallible.

Those who think that they will never have to give up a cherished view, never have occasion to change an opinion, will be disappointed…

In regard to infallibility, I never claimed it; God alone is infallible. His word is true, and in Him is no variableness, or shadow of turning.”

“THEY WHICH LEAD THEE CAUSE THEE TO ERR”

And let’s face it. All those “not-so-noble and not-at-all-Bereans” who are too busy to do their own personal truth-seeking research, have merely allowed their church leaders to do their homework for them, and have perilously placed their soul’s Salvation in the hands of mere men…

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…

O My people, they which lead thee cause thee to err,

and destroy the way of thy paths.”

Hosea 4:6 & Isaiah 3:12

These above two little verses really speak a mouthful in regard to today’s church-world! Like never before, today’s church parishioners are mostly content to let others do their homework for them.

THE ADULTEROUS WOMAN ADMITS NO WRONG!

.

But compare the life and writings of Ellen White to today’s church leaders. Do you even find one joke, or jest, or frivolity, or any “lightness” in her writings?

(For “lightness” references, see 2nd Corinthians 1:17 & Jeremiah 23:32 along with Matthew Henry comments on those two verses) 

.

Not one instance! Rather, she believed the duty of calling souls to Christ to be a far more serious and sacred trust, to ever be mingled with the common and impious humor of the world! In her own words…“they need to pray more and talk less; for souls are hanging in the balance.” (SpTB02, p.46) 

.

Now compare that to the jovial radio and television preachers so often heard today!

.

Not only are their sermons often filled with a low-grade piety, but it’s quite common for them to keep their audience in stitches by jokes, jests, lightness and mockeries! And they don’t even apologize for it!

.

It reminds us of this following proverb of Solomon…

“Such is the way of an adulterous woman;

she eateth, and wipeth her mouth,

and saith, I have done no wickedness.”

Proverbs 30:20

.

Yes, in contrast to the virtuous woman who Ellen White was, these modern-day preachers more closely align to the adulterous woman in the above Proverb 30:20 verse. We often sin with our mouths and then claim, “I have done no wickedness!”

BIBLE FREE OF ALL HUMOR AND JESTS

But listen to God’s Word…

“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us,

and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness,

let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Neither filthiness, NOR FOOLISH TALK, NOR JESTING,

which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks…

Let no man deceive you with vain words:

for because of these things cometh the wrath of God

upon the children of disobedience.”

Ephesians 5:2-4, 6

This above passage was one that Mrs. White took to heart, and is oft paraphrased in her writings, in which she pointed out that neither Jesus, nor John, nor Paul, nor any of the other writers of the Bible made any jokes, jests, nor engaged in any lightness or frivolity anywhere in the Bible!

.

No, not one instance, even though many preachers will wrestle with some scriptures to deceitfully imply some joke made by Jesus or someone else in Scripture!

.

But, as already stated, the Noble Berean will be pleased to discover not one instance of comedy, etc., was ever used in the vast volumes of Ellen White’s writings. Not one instance!

Now listen to her very own words in her paraphrase of Ephesians 5…“There is nothing gloomy in the religion of Jesus.

While all lightness, trifling, and jesting, which the apostle says are not convenient, are to be studiously avoided, there is a sweet rest and peace in Jesus that will be expressed in the countenance.

Christians will not be mournful, depressed, and despairing.

They will be sober-minded, yet they will show to the world a cheerfulness which only grace can impart.”

And all those who are familiar with her life fully understand that Ellen White lived by these words! While daily engaging in charitable deeds in her community, to spending tireless hours writing letters to cheer up and encourage her many friends, to her countless other endeavors such as starting colleges and hospitals and churches, Ellen White exhibited cheerfulness even during her times of physical pain! Oh yes, perhaps her critics can find some instances in her 70-year-long ministry in which she failed in this area.

But all those “Noble Bereans” out there will want to begin to search “the Scriptures daily” in hopes of matching up her writings and even her life to the only infallible test of truth, the Bible!

In today’s Christendom, it is not uncommon to hear Bible teachers make the hollow claim to that old Reformation mantra, “Sola Scriptura”!

Yes, many churches, and ministries confidently maintain their purity of doctrine…“We follow the Bible and the Bible only!”

And yet, in most cases, this is simply not true!

“EVERY WORD OF GOD IS PURE…ADD THOU NOT!”

Proverbs 30:6

You see, one of the great errors in today’s Christian community is the common practice of concocting theological jargon which are found nowhere in Scripture.

.

In other words, there are certain church doctrines which sadly have no origin nor foundation in Scripture, and yet are propped up and supported by establishing some man-made theological name, which lends to them a certain air of credibility.

.

THE BRAIN-CHILD OF DARBY, SCOFIELD AND OTHERS!

.

For instance, one well-accepted doctrine in today’s Christian world is the so-called “Rapture”.

.

But the fact is, the Bible makes no mention of this theologian-derived name which is used as a substitute for the true biblical name, “The Return of the Lord”.

.

But in attempt to establish two separate returns of Jesus, this unbiblical name was fabricated by several theologians of the past, to give impetus to this notion that Christ would return not once, but twice.

And the sad fact is, it has worked, to a high degree! And coupled together with a few ambiguous Bible verses, the parishioners in most churches today, have fully accepted this heresy, the brain-child of Darby, Scofield and perhaps one or two other false teachers from decades past.

Well, these two men are rarely ever mentioned, nor given any credit for this name, “The Rapture”, in a veiled attempt to deceive church-goers into believing that this unbiblical name is actually of Divine origin! But it’s not!

Yes, for some reason, by simply fabricating a theological name, and repeating that name day and night, via the many television and radio ministries now airing, this false doctrine has gained a strong foothold in today’s apostate church-world.

“BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY”

Well, the so-called “Rapture” is just one of a number of theologian-fabricated names. Another name, “Replacement Theology” is likewise a totally non-biblical name concocted to establish a false teaching which has absolutely no biblical support. It too has been fabricated for the very purpose of establishing a heresy which has no foundation in Scripture.

This Woman of Revelation 12 is definitely fleeing to the mountains . As you can see in this sketch below, The Dragon of Revelation 12 is spewing out his water of falsehoods: false gospels, false ideologies, various temptations, false brethren who will embrace her with the poisonous wine of the The Great Harlot of Babylon. These are what comprise this wave of water coming forth from the Dragon’s mouth. (see “Flood Waters of Satan”)

This above verse from the New Testament Book of Acts speaks of the Sabbath…

The New Testament actually speaks of Paul and his fellow Christians keeping the Sabbath!?

“THE SABBATH…WHERE PRAYER WAS WONT (DESIRED) TO BE MADE”

Acts 16:13

After all, this above verse seems to establish that the Sabbath was still a one day per week event in New Testament times!

.

And by coming out of that city of Philippi, a mostly gentile community, and going down to the river where, “prayer was wont (desired) to be made”, strongly suggests that Paul and the other followers of Jesus, both Jew and Gentile, still honored the literal Sabbath day of the Old Testament.

“AND YE SHALL FIND REST UNTO YOUR SOULS”

And yet, there are a number of other Bible passages which confirm that the New Testament Sabbath is not a LITERAL, but rather, a SPIRITUAL rest, in which Jesus says…

“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.

Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart:

and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

Matthew 11:28, 29

So, which is it?

Is the New Testament Sabbath still a literal 24 hour per week event?

.

Or is the New Testament Sabbath a 24/7/365 cessation from the works of the flesh: the spiritual rest we have in Jesus?

“LET EVERY MAN BE FULLY PERSUADED”

Well, perhaps this next verse may clear up at least some of the confusion…

“One man esteemeth one day above another:

another esteemeth every day alike.

Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord;

and he that regardeth not the day,

to the Lord he doth not regard it.”

Romans 14:5, 6

.

Now, without clarifying exactly what “day” he’s referring to here, Paul nevertheless lays down a principle which can aptly be applied to the 7th Day Sabbath.

After all, the New Testament does seem to be ambiguous regarding the Sabbath issue.

NEW TESTAMENT OFTEN SEEMS AMBIGUOUS

.

Oh yes, in the Old Testament, there was no confusion regarding the Sabbath. But God purposely “muddied the waters”, as the saying goes, regarding our New Testament duty. In other words, in the New Testament, the Sabbath was declared to be that spiritual rest which must be entered into, being synonymous with Salvation.

Listen…

“And to whom sware He that they should not enter into His rest,

but to them that believed not?

So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.”

Hebrews 3:18, 19 

.

And this above passage continues, “There remaineth therefore a rest (literally, ‘a Sabbath keeping’) to the people of God.” Hebrews 4:9

.

And this Sabbath keeping is entered into when a person becomes “Born Again” by the power of the Holy Spirit: a spiritual rest.

KEEPING THE SPIRITUAL SABBATH A MUST!

Well, one thing is for sure! Without entering into Christ’s “rest unto your souls”, there can be no true Salvation for an individual.

Thus, a 24/7/365 spiritual rest unto your souls is a must for every true worshiper of God!

.

“SOME THINGS HARD TO BE UNDERSTOOD!”

2nd Peter 3:16

But God often made the Bible very difficult to comprehend!

.

For one thing, God does not want us to get so dogmatic! He wants humble and teachable disciples! He doesn’t want a bunch of “Know-It-Alls”!

.

But rather, He wants us to become even as humble little children…

“Except ye be converted, and become as little children,

ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:3

.

And thus, there are many places in Scripture in which should cause us to fall to our face (spiritually speaking) and confess…

“LORD, my heart is not haughty,

nor mine eyes lofty:

neither do I exercise myself in great matters,

or in things too high for me.”

Psalm 131:1

“A BROKEN AND A CONTRITE HEART…THOU WILT NOT DESPISE!”

Psalm 51:17

Ultimately, the Bible commands us this way…“Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” Romans 14:5.

.

In other words, before we begin to condemn any other person about their Sabbath keeping, let’s remember that Romans 14:5, 6, warns us not to do this: we are not to judge one man who regards one day above another, nor another man who regards all days alike!

.

And until we become fully persuaded in our own mind about this question, as it applies to our own life, it might be wise to consider also keeping a literal 24-hour-per-week Sabbath, as Paul seemed to do!

.

After all, doesn’t Jesus assure us…“For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day”? Matthew 12:8

.

In John Bunyan’s earth-shaking tale, Pilgrim’s Progress, the main character, Christian, was on his way to the Celestial City, to get that great Burden off his back (the burden of sin).

But on that way, he met up with a fellow named Worldly Wiseman, who informed Christian that such an arduous journey was not necessary.

.

He told Christian that all he needed was to go to the Village of Morality in which all the citizens there merely lived a moral life, while still pursuing the selfish pleasures and ambitious attainments this world has to offer!

And still, he’s busily misdirecting simple-minded Christians into going to the City of Morality instead of continuing onward and upward to Zion, the City of God!

TODAY’S PROSPERITY-DRIVEN GOSPEL

In the November 1st devotional (click here), this notion that many faithful churchgoers maintain, that they can begin to live a moral life while still seeking after the selfish pleasures and ambitious pursuits of the world, was the topic two days ago.

.

But this continuation of that devotional is to further lay down the reasons why such a supposed “dream life” is just not possible in this fallen world.

.

Yes, those who attempt to carve out such a comfortable religion which allows them to continue living greatly for worldly success and happiness are fooling themselves.

.

“And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

2nd Timothy 2:26

And it was pointed out in the November 1st devotional, that Satan, “the god of this world”, will never allow these deceived ones to escape his world-wide snare! No, just the opposite! This great and treacherous spider will continue to wrap his silken cords of selfishness and deceit around his victims, finally injecting his liquefying poison into their veins until they melt into a spiritual jelly-like substance, ready for his Satanic Majesty to gobble them up!

And yet, these spiritually bankrupt ones, in their self-deceived duplicity, can perhaps at times get a glimpse of themselves for what they really are.

Yes, in His love, pity, and tender mercy, God may open my eyes to give me a candid look at myself as He sees me!

“AND THE PHARISEES, WHO WERE COVETOUS…”

For instance, many who attempt to live out their “Christianity” while remaining in the City of Morality, will sometimes be ashamed at their own phariseeism, as they legalistically tithe their 10% to their church, while withholding much for their own personal selfish pleasures.

.

And as we perceive the needy multitudes around the world, starving for the bread of life, our conscience convicts us of our own undoneness…“Oh how selfish I’ve been with my money, when I could instead be financially supporting some faithful outreach ministry!”

.

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these…”

James 5:19

.

And besides the question of finances, these moralistic churchgoers are likewise often grieved because of their less-than-holy behavior which frequently manifests itself in fits of proud anger, impatience, rudeness, fleshly lusts, gluttony, cursing, greed, and other similar fleshly characteristics!

.

Oh yes, we would love to be Christlike. But we cannot!

.

But soon, the Old Deceiver, the Father of Lies comes along and assures us that we are still, “a work in progress”. And we fall for this lie!

And so, we moralists may continue in some 15-30 minute daily Bible study. But as soon as we close our Bible our thoughts return to our daily earthly pursuits. And even though the Bible commands all Christians to meditate day and night on the Word, we just cannot get our minds to do so. We are caught in the Devil’s web of selfishness.

Well, there are many other tell-tale signs of apostasy, which the inhabitants of the City of Morality may see in ourselves.

The hours wasted by television, radio, clubs, parties, working overtime to make more money for selfish pursuits, amusements, sports, houses/gardens/pleasure vehicles/etc., can all be witnesses, used by God to convict our nearly dead consciences that we are lacking a true relationship with Jesus.

“CHRIST JESUS CAME INTO THE WORLD TO SAVE SINNERS, OF WHO I AM CHIEF!”

Now having said all this, it must also be said that it is a very dangerous undertaking to criticize others.

All this must be done with much fear and trembling!

After all, the Bible reveals just who is the chief of sinners: “ME!”

.

None of us can hold our head up high!

.

We are all just a band of rotten sinners in desperate need of God’s mercy and grace!

“GOOD NEWS FROM A FAR COUNTRY”

Proverbs 25:25

Well, the very Good News is, that today is still the day of Salvation! And all who desire to run the Christian race and win the heavenly crown can even now begin to beg and plead for deliverance from our Christless counterfeit religion!

Listen to James 4:4, 8-10 & Galatians 6:9…

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses,

know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?

whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God…

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep:

let your laughter be turned to mourning,

and your joy to heaviness.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord,

and He shall lift you up…in due season.”

Here is the prescription for our terminal illness of selfishness. Nothing less than a complete forsaking of this world of selfishness, followed by a 100% devotion to God is required for any hope for victorious Christian living!

.

Like Bunyan’s pilgrim, we must leave this City of Destruction, get out of the Village of Morality, and get on the upward pathway which leads out of this doomed world and onward to the Celestial City of God, the heavenly Zion!

THE SEEKER (THE SADDUCEE)

LOCATING THIS 3RD FACE

.

The 3rd face of the Moon is a bit more difficult to locate, because it is mostly upside down. But this photo and this sketch (below right) are how this face would appear if it was turned right side up. (In the southern hemisphere, however, this is how the full Moon actually appears.)

.

The 3rd face is the most difficult to see in the northern hemisphere, but once you do, it then becomes easy. This face is like a furry creature of the field. Maybe a rabbit. Maybe a squirrel. Perhaps a chipmunk. Probably a mouse. All “seekers”; all foragers and scavengers.

.

And while this picture shows this little “beast of the field” right side up, this 3rd face is always pretty much in an upside-down position.

The other two faces appear right-side-up, and are easier to locate. This photo and this sketch are both turned around to help you see this 3rd face easily. This enhanced sketch to the above right is merely to help you to see this face more easily. (As already stated, this 3rd face appears right side up in the southern hemisphere.)

LOCATING 3rd FACE AT BEGINNING OF NIGHT

But this sketch here to the right is how this 3rd face actually appears when the Full Moon is in the east, at the beginning of night, in the northern hemisphere. But all you can readily see is this 1st face. 

.

What you must do to see the 3rd face is to tilt your head to the right, 90 degrees.

.

Do you see it? (You may find it easier if you just turn your screen on its left side, if you are using a laptop. But please don’t do anything to put your computer in jeopardy!)

.

The easiest time of the month to actually see this face is when the Full Moon is in the east, just after dark. It then can be seen by tilting your head 90 degrees to the right.  But as night progresses, the Moon rotates clockwise, until this face is completely upside down, as the Moon works its way to the west.
