JESUS WENT TO THE HEART OF THE ISSUE

One thing that was repeatedly evidenced in the life of Jesus, was that He always seemed to, “cut to the chase”, as the saying goes.

Yes, when speaking to various groups or individuals, Jesus went right to the heart of the issue…

When confronted by an unconverted spiritual leader, He said… “Ye must be born again!”

.

And when in the company of the proud, Jesus spoke of humbleness.

And when in the presence of the rich, He spoke of selling all, and, “Come follow Me”.

Yes, Jesus was always on point, no matter who He was speaking with. He always went to the deep need of the human heart.

HUMANITARIANISM

Now in this age, when humanitarianism is extremely popular, even fashionable, there is a great temptation for Christians to merely engage in some charitable good works, instead of being fully engaged in the purification of the heart.

But Christ is not so interested in good works as He is in sitting as the purifier of the hearts of His people!

.

After all, there is no shortage of those who wish to perform humanitarian good works!

.

But to have a heart “renewed in knowledge after the image” of “His dear Son”, is of infinitely more value to our God, who wants a people to represent Christ to a world on its way to eternal destruction! (Colossians 3:10 & 1:13)

FORSAKE THIS PRESENT WORLD

And so, let it be said, just one more time, before these devotionals end, the very words of Jesus…“So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:33

These above words cannot be over-emphasized, especially in this hedonistic, opulent, and materialistic society.

COMING EVENTS MAY SOLVE PROBLEM

DON’T WAIT FOR TIME OF TROUBLE!

But for those who ignore the call of Jesus, to, “forsake all”, thinking that they will wait for the coming, “time of trouble”, to forsake all, they will be bitterly disappointed.

In other words, it is the “forsaking all”, right now, that will prepare the way for the next phase of the great tribulation.

And so those who do not forsake all, will only look upon the troubles of God’s remnant people, as being just a bunch of fanatics getting only what they deserve!

DON’T QUIT JOB, DON’T TRASH BELONGINGS!

Now, as in all devotionals concerning, “forsaking all”, it has been heavily emphasized that God is not wanting us to immediately trash all our belongings and move to the wilderness!

No, but it is like that old song… “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face! And the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace!”

.

Yes, when we look full in His wonderful face, the things of this world will gradually lose their grip on us, being replaced by a great love and desire for spiritual riches and heavenly pursuits.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish” Proverbs 29:18

In the beginning, God placed our first parents in a beautiful garden. But as a result of sin, this world lost much of its beauty. The curse has marred, to a great extent, the pristine condition of nature.

But there are perhaps many, who are under the impression, that God’s redeemed will spend all eternity sitting on a puffy little cloud, strumming a harp. Nothing could be further from the truth! “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth:” Revelation 21:1

.

Do we really imagine that the same God who created that incredible garden for our first parents, would then put us through all this sorrow and hardships of this life, only to now stick us in some boring situation, for all eternity? Such people don’t know God nearly well enough.

.

The beauty and innocent joys of this present world, are just a faint reflection of what awaits all those who persevere on the upward pathway to that Celestial City of God.

.

LET’S CATCH A VISION OF THAT PROMISED LAND

.

.

So Signs Of Heaven encourages the reader to begin to get a vision of the New Heaven and New Earth, and begin to get excited about it. When we hear the cry of a new born baby, or the innocent laughter of little children. When we see a little forest creature having fun, or we enjoy a walk along the sand at the ocean, and hear the majestic roar of the crashing waves. These, and the many other joys of life were created by the One who has also gone to prepare an even more beautiful place for us to live. He knows our needs, and will provide a place: a far more wonderful home than this sin-cursed Earth!

And when we finally cross that river, and we stand together on the shores of that world to come, we will look in amazement at what He has in store for us there. And then we will know for certain, that “His mercy endures forever”, because “God is love”!

In the not too distant future, this sad world will come to its final end.

And for those who persevere through the coming, “Time of Jacob’s Trouble”, there will be the final reward of entering into the Promised Land, which God has prepared for all them that love Him.

And it’s a wonderful land, in which the everlasting hills will resound with the joyful noise of laughter and of singing, and of distant bells ringing in triumph of life-everlasting!

And God is now asking His people to finish our preparation for that wonderful Promised Paradise.

A LITTLE WHILE LONGER!

Yes, this Planet in Rebellion has almost come to its final judgment.

And though we cannot predict exactly how much longer we must remain here, we do believe that it will NOT be hundreds of years like the Tribulation of the Dark Ages.

God will cut short this present Tribulation, for the sake of His Elect.

CHRIST’S LIFE TO BE OUR LIFE

And so, as His faithful followers, let us not think that the forsaking of the ways and wares of this Babylonish world is an undue burden.

No, but let’s remember that Christ came and lived in this world, entirely in harmony with the principles of Heaven. And He tells us, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life!” Yes, the life of Jesus is to be our life!

Jesus is the light of this world! And He says…“he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

And so, to come out of Babylon, simply put is, “to walk, even as He (Jesus) walked.” 1st John 2:6

A COMPLETE EXODUS

Yes, this is the great commission which God has given us: to purify our hearts and conform our lives to His life.

And the call is now going out for His people to finish up this work, by making a complete Exodus away from the Babylonish world.

Oh no, we must still live here, and work, and continue to provide for our families.

.

But we are to continue here even as Christ walked in this world: in complete conformity to the principles of Heaven.

“RIVERS of PLEASURES FOR EVERMORE!”

And though walking as Jesus walked naturally results in forsaking so much of this present selfish world.

But God is not an austere God!

No, the pleasures of Heaven are much greater and far more satisfying than the selfish little short-lived pleasures of this desperately wicked world!

Listen… “They (the Redeemed) shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the river of Thy pleasures.” Psalm 36:8

CITY OF CONFUSION

Babylon was given its name during the building of that infamous Tower of Babylon, because God confused their speech…

Listen… “Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.” Genesis 11:9

And so, the name, Babylon, actually means, “City of Confusion”.

Yes, upon all those who refuse to join the Exodus out of this “City of Confusion”, the apostate churches, the following sentence is pronounced… “Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”

In yesterday’s devotional (click here), this pagan holiday called Christmas, was focused on, and what should be our response to this totally unbiblical holiday.

And certainly, the man of God, or the woman of God has no desire to, “rain on the parade” of others, as the saying goes.

“COME OUT OF HER, MY PEOPLE!”

But in response to God’s command to, “Come out of her (Babylon, the apostate churches) My people…”, Christians must come all the way out of spiritual Babylon!

.

God Word does not compromise with paganism and worldly philosophies.

.

And though He may have winked at our ignorance in past decades, the time to come out of Babylon has fully arrived!

.

“ANOTHER JESUS”

One thing to keep in mind is the verse from Psalms 35:9… “verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity (worthless). Selah.“

Yes, there is nothing that Mankind can do, which will enhance the effectiveness of the Gospel!

And so, for us to think that man-made holidays will somehow be a benefit to the Salvation of the Lost, is anti-biblical thinking.

“THE WICKED DOTH ENCOMPASS ABOUT THE RIGHTEOUS”

Oh yes, such holidays as Christmas and Easter may bring people into the Church. But the fact is, these holidays, along with other compromises, have an appeal to unconverted minds.

And so, as we look out across the Christian landscape, it is easily seen that the Church has, over the past decades, filled up with unconverted members, who have, “crept in unawares”! (see Jude 1:4)

.

“ADD THOU NOT!”

.

Listen to the pure Word of Truth…“Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” Proverbs 30:5, 6

Those who truly fear God and put their trust in Him, will tremble at the mere thought of adding anything to His Word!

.

And frankly, these Babylonian “holy-days” are an addition to His Word, no matter how hard the worldly-portion-of-the-Church tries to deny it!

.

IMPOSSIBLE TO DO GOOD!

.

And so, this notion that we can somehow turn these unbiblical holidays into a blessing, by witnessing to this lost world during these times, is to deny God’s Word which tells us that, “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one!” Job 14:4.

.

In other words, these holidays are an integral part of this wicked world, and God will not bless the futile works of mere men.

.

On the other hand, a true worshiper of God never should miss an opportunity to warn the world of the nearness of the end, and of the gift of everlasting life which Jesus offers to all.

ABRAHAM’S PRESUMPTUOUS SIN

Listen… “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. There is none that does good; no not one! They are become altogether unprofitable!” Romans 3:10-12

.

This holiday called Christmas, was designed by the apostate churches of early Europe as a means of attracting the world into those fallen churches.

.

And so, to think that these non-biblical holidays could be a benefit to God’s truth is akin to Abraham and Sarah thinking that they could help God by having a child through that Egyptian woman, Hagar!

But be warned!

.

Those who take a stand against the world’s idols will be mocked, derided and accused by the world, as well as by the worldly church!

“EVEN A FOOL, WHEN HE HOLDS HIS PEACE, IS COUNTED WISE…”

Proverbs 17:28

Well, one thing is for sure! Silence is usually the best course to take, when we are unsure about what to do in these “sticky” situations, such as these matters!

And let’s remember, it is usually the fanatics who make the loudest noise against these holidays, either on the pro-side or the con-side!

.

And so, considering this above verse from Proverbs, let’s not be like Mr. Ignorance here in this sketch from Pilgrim’s Progress!

Don’t be spouting off our foolishness, as he is doing with the two pilgrims!

.

“He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.” Proverbs 13:3

FLEE TO MOUNT SION

And in conclusion, it is no wonder why God refers to today’s church-world as “Mystery Babylon”.

.

It is filled with error and confusion, but so close to truth, that it becomes difficult to discern the error.

And these Babylonish holidays make things even more confusing for dedicated Christians! 

.

And as a result of this hard-hearted confusion, God is now calling His people to quietly come out of this “City of Confusion” (Isaiah 24:10), and flee to the spiritual Mount Sion, to take their stand with all those who, “follow the Lamb withersoever He goeth.” Revelation 14:4

CITY OF CONFUSION

Babylon was given its name during the building of that infamous Tower of Babylon, because God confused their speech…

And so, the name, Babylon, actually means, “City of Confusion”.

It is no secret that Christmas has its roots in ancient pagan holy-days.

“ANOTHER JESUS?”

.

One thing to keep in mind is the verse from 2nd Corinthians 11:4…“For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

.

Yes, just as the Corinthians were prone to accept look-alike gospels, and a look-alike Jesus, and a counterfeit Holy Spirit, so too, Christians today may be prone to do the same!

TO ENGAGE OR NOT TO ENGAGE?

Oh yes, Christians can use Christmas as a time to share the true Gospel.

.

And Christians may wish to keep quiet while unsaved family members celebrate this unscriptural holy-day.

.

And a Christian parent who has an unsaved spouse may wish to engage in the celebration of these false holidays, with joyfulness, all for the sake of unsaved family members.

CELEBRATING, “ANOTHER JESUS”

2nd Corinthians 11:4

.

But we must keep in mind that the world does not and cannot celebrate the true Christ! 

.

No, just like those who were coming to the Corinthians with, “another Jesus”, the world does not understand the true Jesus Christ.

.

Because if they did, they would crucify Him all over again!

.

And so, the Christian must realize that when the world celebrates Christmas, they are actually honoring, “another Jesus”, and not the Jesus of the Bible.

.

And to get brutally honest, there is only one “Jesus” that this unsaved world can honor: Satan, who “comes as an angel of light”, imitating Jesus! (see 2nd Corinthians 11:14)

.

therefore, when we lock arms with the unsaved (and with worldly-minded churchgoers), there are two entirely different Jesus’s being honored: one from Heaven and one from Hell!

 A DIFFICULT QUESTION

.

And the question I must ask myself is, “Am I being dishonest by feigning to celebrate this false Christian holiday? And do I really want to give the impression that I am honoring their jesus, knowing that they are worshiping a jesus of their own making?”

.

And so, the Christian must pray for great wisdom, to know how to handle this difficult situation. (But silence and Christian forbearance is usually the best path to take in most cases.)

BE HONEST

Another great problem with Christmas traditions, such as Santa Claus, flying reindeer, etc….

Because, once children stop believing in these “mythical” things, then they just might also stop believing in Jesus too! He’s most likely just another myth to them!

Satan’s no dummy! He knows how to inspire unbelief in a person! And children are not dumb either!

.

When they realize that we were deceiving them, then they may not trust our “story” about Jesus either!

JUST KEEP IT PAGAN!

There are some Christians, perhaps, who would like to keep Christ completely out of Christmas altogether! In this way, it can just be enjoyed as a secular holiday, instead of mingling the holy with the common…

Listen… “and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as My mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them…” Jeremiah 15:19

.

In other words, God is telling Jeremiah to separate holy things from the unholy things of the world. And this truth is repeated in other places in Scripture.

.

God does not want the purity of the Gospel to be compromised by common, worldly things.  

.

“EVEN A FOOL, WHEN HE HOLDS HIS PEACE, IS COUNTED WISE…”

Proverbs 17:28

Well, one thing is for sure! Silence is usually the best course to take, when we are unsure about what to do in a particular situation!

Listen…“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Proverbs 17:28

NON-BIBLICAL HOLY DAYS

When the Jew’s Feast of Dedication was being held in Jerusalem, Jesus was present, and though He made no pretense to celebrate that feast, He did seem to use it as an occasion to teach the truth about true salvation. (see John 10:22, and the surrounding verses)

.

And also, it seems that Paul also used a Jewish festival to proclaim the Gospel, even though the Jewish festivals were no longer to be observed, because of their fulfillment in Christ. (see Acts 18:21)

STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!

Now the main point to all this is that for the world (and for worldly-minded church-attendees), none of this information is of much importance.

But for those who are desiring to, “follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth”, everything is important!

And the more we know of the Bible, the less complicated will all these seemingly difficult questions become.

.

So, the bottom line to this and most all other issues is, Study, Study, Study!!!

.

Because, it is written, “…through knowledge shall the just be delivered.” Proverbs 11:9

.

FLEE TO MOUNT SION

And so, it is no wonder that God refers to today’s church-world as Mystery Babylon. It is filled with error and confusion.

And these look-alike Babylonish holidays make things even more confusing for dedicated Christians!

And God is now calling His people to come out of this City of Confusion, and flee to the spiritual Mount Sion, to take their stand with all those who, “follow the Lamb withersoever He goeth.” Revelation 14:4
