In yesterday’s devotional (click here), John Bunyan’s earth-shaking allegory, Pilgrim’s Progress was discussed.

.

And the episode concerning Mr. Worldly Wiseman, and his worldly-wise advice to the pilgrim became the foundation for the theme of these two devotionals, “Leaving the City of Destruction”.

.

And without trying to go over all that was presented in yesterday’s devotional, this Part #2 will offer the remedy for those who have been deceived by the many Worldly Wisemen within the Church today.

.

Yes, if the Reader suspects that he or she has been duped by those in the Church who advocate (by word or by example) settling down in this world, this devotional is offered.

.

This devotional will try to give practical tips for those have become hopelessly entangled and mired in a complicated lifestyle.

.

EVIDENCE OF APOSTASY

.

Perhaps the greatest destructive result from immersing one’s self in the pursuit of this selfish world, is that it is all but impossible to contemplate God’s Word through the day.

.

Listen… “O how love I Thy law (Thy Word)! it is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:97. 

.

This above verse, and other similar verses, exhort us to contemplate God’s Word through our day! And those who find themselves incapable of dwelling on God’s Word through the day, are giving themselves clear-cut evidence that they have simply become too busy with life! Too immersed in other things!

.

One may decide it’s time to seek a simpler lifestyle. And of course, married couples must decide if they can make such a transition, while still providing for the food and housing and necessary comforts and happiness for the other members of the family. Much prayer for wisdom is the prerequisite to making any drastic changes! Make no sudden changes, especially if you are prone to make unwise or unbalanced decisions.

But this devotional will offer some practical advice for those who are trying to simplify their lifestyle.

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING…

.

The very first thing to do, is to plead with God for His presence in one’s life. Now this pleading is an ongoing work.

.

The life of a Christian is a life of seeking after God. We are never to become presumptuous about our relationship with God. It never hurts to beg God for mercy. It is not a denial of faith to continually plead for Salvation!

.

Beyond this, we are to start wherever we are. Yes, at whatever place we are, that is the place in which our upward journey begins. And we are not to wait for circumstances to improve. But to simply start walking may just be our very first step of faith.

.

“COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM…”

.

Now the next thing necessary is to begin to clear away all ungodly associations from our lives. Unwholesome friendships. Less than godly amusements. Television. Secular radio, etc….

.

Listen… “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2nd Corinthians 6:17, 18.

.

This above passage should become etched upon the mind of every Christian!

.

And not only will such a separation keep us from many temptations, but will begin to clear out the rubbish from our minds, with the hope of purifying our hearts.

.

Listen… “And every man that hath this hope in Him (meeting Christ), purifies himself, even as He (Christ) is pure.” 1st John 3:3

.

“IT IS MY MEDITATION ALL THE DAY…”

.

Now the next step we take is to begin to make room for God in our life. And the Christian must begin to fill his or her mind with the pure Word of Truth. And for your information, this is the great secret to having a victorious life in Christ! And even those whose life is filled with worldly obligations can still find many ways to make room for study and contemplation of the Bible. 

.

And we may even find that listening to a Bible on MP3 or having a small pocket-Bible to read at various moments, are the beginning ways to filling our hearts with good things.

“IN THIS WORLD YE SHALL HAVE TRIBULATION…“

John 16:33

Now perhaps the next step is to pray for strength to endure the many fiery trials which will undoubtedly come.

.

After all, Satan will be aroused by your spiritual revival, and seek to dissuade, discourage, and derail the Christian in any way possible! But God will allow only those trials which are necessary to purify the heart of His dear children.

.

Listen… “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” 1st Peter 4:12, 13

.

FRIEND, GO UP HIGHER…

Luke 14:10

Well, these are the beginning steps one must take in attempting to leave the city of destruction.

.

But these steps are not the end.

.

We must continue on, willing to receive more, as God gives us more grace to attain greater and greater heights, in our upward pilgrimage out of this world, on our journey to the heavenly city of God!

An easy way to find Arcturus is to follow the arc of the handle of the Big Dipper, in the spring through fall (these are the months in which Arcturus is visible).

Leaving the City of Destruction!

.

.

.

.

In John Bunyan’s earth-shaking allegory, Pilgrim’s Progress, an everyman character named “Christian”, begins a journey away from the City of Destruction (this world) to the Celestial City (Heaven).

.

And in spite of his warnings to his family and fellow town’s-people, Christian ultimately had to make the journey alone.

.

MR. WORDLY WISEMAN

.

Now on this journey, the pilgrim met a character named Mr. Worldly Wiseman, who convinced Christian to forsake his heavenward journey, and instead, merely take up residence in the “City of Morality”.

.

But when Christian saw a giant mountain tottering above the pathway to this city (representing the condemnation of the Law), he realized it was far too dangerous to stay in that town, and risk getting crushed by that heavy mountain!

.

And so, Christian hurried away, and resumed his pilgrimage to the Celestial City.

.

WORLDY WISEMAN, ALIVE AND WELL!

.

Now the point of bringing this up, is that far too many called-to-be-pilgrims today, seem to have met up with this very same notorious and wily character, Mr. Worldly Wiseman!

.

Yes, it seems as though most Christians have been taken in that same deception which almost destroyed Christian!

.

It seems as though many churchgoers today have the misguided notion that God has called us to make this world our home. And as a result, many encourage their children to get a nice education, and raise a nice family and pursue a nice life here on earth, with nice friends and nice vacations and nice hobbies and nice savings accounts and nice homes and nice cars, and lots of nice possessions, and on and on and on it goes.

.

But what we don’t realize is, that we have quite possibly fallen into the same snare which almost destroyed Bunyan’s pilgrim!

.

Yes, we have most likely been listening to some Worldly Wiseman’s worldly-wise counsel!

.

CALLED TO LEAVE THIS WORLD!

.

But the fact is, that we have been called by God to take up a pilgrimage away from this present City of Destruction, and spiritually climb that upward pathway to the Celestial City of Heaven.

.

And we are called to set aside our carnal and worldly desires and seek to live the same spiritual life which Jesus lived. The same spiritual life that Paul lived! And John lived! And Peter and his family lived!

.

Listen… “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” 1st Corinthians 11:1.

.

Yes, Paul here calls us to follow his godly example!

.

“NO MAN THAT WARS ENTANGLES HIMSELF IN THE AFFAIRS OF THIS LIFE…”

2nd Timothy 2:4

And though we may have a house to live in, and may even meet our prospective spouse, we should never think that we, as Christians, are to carve out some sort of ivy-covered haven for ourselves, here in this world.

.

No, quite the contrary! We, as Christians, must never plant our roots in this world!

.

And even if we do plan to marry, we must make sure our potential spouse is not merely a worldly-minded “Christian”, mostly seeking after a nice life in this world!

.

But rather, we need to realize that it is God’s purpose to destroy our love for this present selfish world.

.

NOT TO NESTLE-DOWN

But instead of nestling ourselves down into this world, the Christian needs to look to Jesus, and follow His example.

Listen to the very words of Jesus, when confronted by a potential new follower… “And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow Thee whithersoever Thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.” Matthew 8:19, 20.

.

Yes, like this man which Jesus spoke those words to, there are far too many of us who think that Christianity is some sort of complimentary addition to our worldly lifestyle.

.

But this mistaken notion is the very essence and foundation of false religion!

.

HEARTS IN HEAVEN!

But listen to Paul... “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Ephesians 3:1-3

.

As this passage reveals, our lifestyle and affections are to be in the heavenly courts above.

.

And though we must still work and provide for the needs and happiness of our household, we must, at the same time, keep our main focus on the things of Heaven!

.

TRADING THIS WORLD FOR THE WORLD TO COME!

But the Good News is, that though we must forsake our selfish lives in this world, God assures us that we will have “treasure in Heaven”!

.

And part of those treasures are the riches of joy and peace and constant communion with the Lord, as we go through this dark world.

.

And of course, the Bible makes clear that the gift of everlasting life is the truest of all riches!

.

HOW THE GATES RELATE TO ORION & DRAGON

.

This sketch below is when these constellations are in the eastern sky in early winter (However, this constellation group can even be seen as early as late July, in the pre-dawn hours). 

.

In the eastern sky, it’s not so easily seen which gate the Revelation 12 Woman will enter. The Wide Gate is made of the two brightest stars of this Wave of Water Constellation. Satan spews out the deadly water of his false worldly ideologies; which many of these ideologies have a form of godliness, but in some way are not in harmony; or perhaps these worldly ideologies add to the Bible, which is strictly forbidden (see Deuteronomy 4:2).

On the other hand, the Strait Gate (narrow gate) is composed of the two brightest stars of the Orion The Reaper’s sickle.

.

The true Strait Gate represents Jesus, the Word of God.

“Follow Paul’s Godly Example”

.

Part 1

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

The Apostle Paul says it this way, as he wrote to encourage the early Church…

.

Listen… “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am (a follower) of Christ…Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 & Philippians 4:9. 

.

So these two verses show that Paul’s life was an imitation of the life of Jesus. 

.

Perhaps, the following statement by Paul could be considered his mantra for life… “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

.

THE LIFE…CHRIST THE PATTERN FOR OUR LIVES…

Jesus says… “I am the life”. 

.

The life that we are to live has been shown to us, when Jesus came down to this lost world and walked among us.

.

Not only did He give us a chance for new life, when He atoned for our sins, by His sacrifice on the Cross; but He also gave Himself an example.

.

CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST!

And we should walk even as He walked, even as Paul goes on to say… “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20.

7 STARS IMITATE THE CROSS OF ORION

.

This phenomenon begins in late October, in the pre-dawn hours. It then begins a little earlier each night.

.

This Wikipedia star-chart to the left, has this constellation sketched in. You must locate Orion, when it is mid-sky, between east and west. You’ll be facing southward most likely, unless you are far south. Try to imagine it as a Cross on a steep hill. The 3-star belt of Orion becomes the crest of the hill. The 3 very faint stars that make up Orion’s head become the very top of the Cross.

.

 

Next, locate the 7 Stars Constellation. This 7 Stars Constellation is seen by facing northward. It stands upright a little later in the night. Eventually, Orion will lay down and no longer be seen as an uplifted Cross! Beginning in November, the 7 Stars (AKA Big Dipper) can be seen as a Cross a little bit later in evening.

When you are comfortable in locating Orion & The 7 Stars Constellations, then show a friend. This can be a great witnessing tool!

.

There was a heated debate over the issue of evolution verses Creation. And both participants were skilled in the art of public debate.

Each gentlemen presented well-rehearsed arguments in favor of their respective opinions on the subject.

But of course, as usual in such verbal jousting matches, the winner was he who was most skilled in the art and craft of debating.

BEAUTY, POETRY, WISDOM & LAWS ALL TESTIFY OF OUR CREATOR!

But instead of arguing about the technical issues in the debate between Evolution and Creation, there are powerful LIVING witnesses, all which testify in behalf of a divine Creator.

.

And so, in Part 1 (click here to read), it was put forth that in all of nature, there are four witnesses, who all testify in behalf of the Creator! Beauty, Poetry, Wisdom, and Laws, all stand up and speak so eloquently in defense of nature’s God!

.

And it would seem, that any doubter or skeptic, who would open his or her mind to carefully consider the testimony of these four very persuasive witnesses, would eventually come to the same conclusion: “There has to be a Creator, who is filled with these same qualities!”

THE AWESOME MAJESTY

And so, it is discovered that nature has these three additional witnesses, just mentioned: one of which is nature’s awesome grandeur!

Yes, nature is awesome!

.

And it is grand!

.

Majestic and powerful!

.

Or whatever other superlative one wishes to use in describing this 6th-witness to nature’s Creator.

FROM CHAOS TO MAJESTIC!?

After all, how could all the splendor and majestic nobility found throughout nature just be the result of some cosmic accident! 

.                                                                                                                                                                  

The Bible testifies that Mankind is without excuse for our willing ignorance of God’s existence…

“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them;

for God hath showed it unto them.

For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,

being understood by the things that are made,

even His eternal power and Godhead;

so that they are without excuse:”

Romans 1:19, 20

.

Here we see that God is making no excuse for Mankind’s willing ignorance of God’s existence!

No, God has inscribed His witnesses throughout nature, which all testify of the Creator’s power and majesty!

When God created the Moon and the stars, He ordained them to “rule the night” (Genesis 1:16).

The Moon, especially when it is full, can light your pathway through the night, as it reflects the light of the Sun.

So too, the Christian is to be a light to the world: to this sin-darkened world.

But as the Moon must reflect the light of the Sun, in order to be a light to the world, so also must the Christian reflect the light of Jesus, to be a spiritual light to this planet in rebellion.
